Hair Removal Tips For Men And Women

I'm not a big believer in universal statement unless it's absolutely 100% truthful. When I read about a hair removal option offering permanent hair removal or painless hair removal I'm sceptical.

When it comes to hair removal, you'll quickly find that you need separate fact from fiction, truth from hype. Just because a product is marketed as offering something, it doesn't mean that it actually does it or that it will work for you specifically.

Here are some hair removal tips to consider when you are weighing your options for hair removal.

  • Ensure your chosen hair removal practitioner has the necessary training, skills and experience to perform the treatment. This is especially true in the case of laser and light-based treatment.
  • Understand all possible side effects before undergoing any treatment.
  • Learn to tell the difference between fact and hype when it comes to marketing claims about various hair removal options.
  • Fully understand the treatment plan of the option you choose ie. how often will you have to take treatment? The more treatments = more cost to you.
  • When appropriate (ie. with laser and light-based treatments) check to see if the processes are government approved.
The bottom line is to ensure you do your research and properly weight your options and the cost, possible side effects and effectiveness of each.

Temporary and permanent hair removal technology is evolving constantly and is relevant to both men and women who want to remove unwanted hair.

Propecia: A Path for Hair Growth

A hair loss from 20 -35 strands daily is normal and common occurrence. The problem rises when there is an excessive shedding, for this may result in complete baldness in no time. It is when thinning hair become obvious, most people become concerned about hair restoration process. And in anxiety or depression they begin experimenting with different products.

It is a fact that 90% of hair loss is due to genetic problem and the rest is due to some metabolic dysfunction that goes inside our body. But medical science has successfully proved that through proper medication one can not only stop hair loss but also regrew them to some extent.

One of the main reasons of hair loss is due to secretion of a hormone called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It shrinks the hair follicles and decreases the amount of hair on head. So when there is an increase in DHT secretion a human head begins loosing hair and once the DHT level in the scalp decreases, the cycle of hair loss stops and in many cases new growth of hair resumes.

This is what Propecia does, decreasing the amount of DHT from our scalp. The main ingredient in Propecia is Finasteride. It directly inhibits the formation of DHT and over a period of considerable amount of time, it reduces the level of DHT sufficiently, minimizing its effects on our hair follicles.

As with any drug, finasteride can also cause side effects to a minority of users. The FDA trials reported a 2% incidence of varying side effects but these tends to cease as the body gets adjusted to the drug after a period of time. Some of its side affects or symptoms are skin rash, or swelling of lips.

Propecia is available only on prescription. So the best thing to do is to consult your dermatologist before using it and do not share this drug with others.

What are the Best Hair Loss Products Available Today?

Nowadays hair loss is a very common problem not only among males but among females too. Hair loss is a source of great anxiety for many, directly affecting their self-confidence and causing feelings of mental and emotional humiliation. With such a high level of anxiety among hair loss sufferers, it is only natural that the hair loss market be filled with a wide selection of effective and not so effective hair loss products.

There are plenty of effective hair loss products and hair regrowth products to choose from, such as natural essential oils, natural herbs, conventional drugs, shampoos, serums, lotions and conditioners.

Finasteride, Minoxidil, and Rogaine are the more popular hair loss drug products available today to stop or prevent hair loss. Finasteride is sold in pharmacies as Propecia, and this hair loss product is recommended only for men. Like Finasteride, Rogaine is available only through drugstores. Rogaine has to be applied twice daily for 3 to 4 months to get any positive results. Minoxidil is a common and effective hair loss treatment method among younger men. However, continual use of hair loss drug products such as Minoxidil may lead to side effects such as a itchy scalp, or even more serious complications such as low libido if these hair loss treatment products are used over a long period of time.

With these possible side effects linked to hair loss drug products, more and more hair loss sufferers are turning to natural hair loss remedies to prevent or stop hair loss. Dr Proctor, Thymuskin, Viviscal, Hair Genesis, Revivogen, Tricomin, and Nisim products are just some examples of the best hair loss products available on the market.

Dr. Proctor?s Hair Regrowth shampoo is one of the more popular natural hair loss products, as it has no chemical ingredient. Its Regrowth shampoo is widely used by hair loss sufferers due to its easy application, while its Life Extension Shampoo supports healthy hair.

Thymuskin is more effective (95%) in female than male (67%) for treating hair loss. This hair loss shampoo clears the hair follicle of debris, dirt, oil and other waste. It consists of thymus peptides that diffuse deep into the hair follicles to clean them.

Viviscal shampoo helps to maintain healthy hair. Apart from this, the shampoo treats hair loss and hair thinning. Viviscal products are available in all forms including scalp lotion, conditioner and tablets.

Hair Genesis products are also available as conditioners, topical serums, oral supplements, and hair regrowth shampoo. Hair Genesis is especially favoured by women, and it works mainly by stopping the DHT blockers.

Organin for Hair Loss: The New Treatment For Men Who Are Balding

The Root Cause of Hair Loss

Before going out and trying Organin for hair loss, it is important to understand why you are experiencing hair loss. There are several causes that can make your hair fall out and stop growing. For example, your thyroid gland may be under or overactive. This will cause you to suffer hair loss.

Women may experience hair loss around three months after giving birth, owing to their hormones being out of balance. Whilst pregnant, high levels of hormones that would normally make your hair fall out, cause the body to retain the hair instead. When these hormones return to normal, the hair that should have previously fallen out will do so now, giving the appearance of hair loss.

Your hair loss could be caused by some particular types of medicines. Include, but not limited to, are anticoagulants, also known as blood thinners, and other medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, or to treat maybe gout or depression. Stress and frequent indigestion can also cause hair loss by preventing blood from absorbing the vitamins and minerals you need to nourish the roots of your hair. Some hair loss can be remedied by a change of diet or medicines.

However, for most men, suffering from loss of hair has nothing to do with any of these things - it is hereditary, and there is not a lot you can do about it.

A Solution

Organin for hair loss is a relatively new solution to combat thinning and balding hair. Not a paint or a cream, it is a natural fiber uniquely formulated so that its textured fibers bind themselves to your existing hair. Hair Color Trends Update Yourself!

Current hair color trends are defined within the move towards relaxed glamour. Healthy, shiny hair, with lots of movement, yet still well groomed. Color is defined - it's either pastel blondes, in clean, icy tones. Or cool browns, or brilliant reds. The move has definitely been away from red browns, although if that's a personal choice, or suits your skin tone best, don't be a slave to fashion!

Here are some ideas to incorporate the latest hair color trends into your style:

Double sided coloring - underneath, choose a darker color like chocolate, and over the top, and for most of the hair, choose lighter shades like copper and bronze. The darker color will frame your face, and if you go for any flicks or curls when styling, you'll see it contrasted against the lighter colors. But the main colors when hair is straightened will be the lighter ones. It's great for variety.

Try color combinations like coffee, honeycomb and golden syrup for a more subtle, layered effect.

For brunettes who like their chocolate browns, try a few golden highlights to break up the block of chocolate, unless your face and skin color can handle the density of such a rich dark color. It really helps define your hair style, and is much easier to wear.

If you like very dark colors, try a brown black instead of a straight black. Or get your hairdresser to mix in some blue black into the brown black to give it more intensity, but without the harshness of a solid black that is not flattering to all skin tones. Also, try mixing in some caramel and pink-red foils with a violet brown black base. If they're used creatively, and with restraint, you can keep the overall look very dark and mysterious, with a few hints of color showing.

For blondes, try mixing golden blonde with a very light ash. Or for a more subtle but contrasting look, have the ends of a bob colored a pale pastel coral.

If you want to try platinum shades, instead of going for a harsher white white, try a softer platinum white tinted slightly with pink.

For a pretty natural blonde look, try splicing a few clove and light ash foils through a pale, golden base shade.

Redheads: Go for a rich, fiery copper with a darker brown underneath, like clove. This works well on long hair and mid length hair.

For another red combination, try cayenne, nutmeg and paprika.

For really vibrant colors mixed with a darker base, away from the coppers, try a pink red combination of cassis and raspberry coulis.

For something a little more outrageous and individual, go for a brightly colored fringe, say in pink, and a few purple ends.

If you want something quite striking, but not so colorful, just go for a lighter than usual highlight. As long as it's tastefully done, it'll look great. Don't try this at home!!!

When choosing colors, be aware of whether it's a warm shade or a cool shade. And keep in mind how much of each color is going to be on your hair. Which shade, or tone, do you want the dominant one to be? Do you want a subtle effect, or a more striking one? Unless the contrasting color is going to be in small amounts, keep warm tones together, and cool tones together, irrespective of whether they are blond, brown, black or red. For example, chocolate brown highlights look good with warm vanilla, even though the colors themselves are quite distinct.

You can use different tones together. But it depends on both your skin tone, the way the colors are applied, and how much of each are used. If you're going for this approach, think of the contrasting tone as a painter would, and be judicious about it's placing.

How to Evaluate Local Beauty Salon Services

Every woman in the world likes to feel beautiful. Some take measures into their own hands, buying products that they can use at home for hair, skin, and nail care. Others have a favorite hair stylist or manicurist that can help them. And maybe you're one who's actively looking for a new beauty salon - a place where you can go to catch up on the latest hair fashion styles or take your time having someone else take care of you and your outward beauty.

Beauty salons, day spas, and hair and nail care services have all grown in the last few decades as women have become more accustomed to feeling and looking good. Many are willing to pay top dollar for services that they otherwise couldn't or wouldn't do themselves, or entrust to a friend. Plus, beauty salon employees value staying current with the latest in fashion trends, and this includes hairstyles. So there are many reasons why you might considering trying out a beauty salon. In selecting a beauty salon or hair care service in your area, you'll want to consider a number of factors.

Primarily, you want to consider factors like how close the salon is to your home, whether they have a clean and up to date store front appearance, and whether the stylists and employees are friendly and considerate. Of course, you'll want to ask about the price of services and take note of whether the service is done efficiently and with courtesy. If you're new to trying out a beauty salon, inquire about their familiarity with a certain look or type of technique that you're interested in trying out. Also, it helps if you can find someone who gets to know you and the styles you might look best in - that way you can come back to them on a regular basis for continual hair and beauty care. Finding a beauty salon that works for you may take a bit of interviewing and effort. Through the suggestions provided above you'll be able to narrow your focus to those that would best suit your needs.

Choice Curling Irons And Tips for an Amazing Do

This appliance can give a fabulous appearance with very little time investment. And while it's easy to enhance one's do with the use of a curling iron, not all curling irons are made the same. Regardless of which model you choose, don't forget to spritz your hair with some hairspray, or else they may lose their curl when your night has not even ended yet!

One more useful technique in applying a curling iron is dealing with the hair's ends. Placing them under or flipping these ends a bit wildly will work wonders. A curling iron is an all-around device enough to curl specifically the strands that needed curling in whichever way a person wishes to have. Even if the need is to just curl more small parts of the hair, a curling iron can be successful in curling your whole hair as well. It might be a tedious job for some as a curling iron may consume about five minutes or less to forty-five minutes onwards, depending on the hair type and the intricacy of the style one wishes to achieve.

Our top 4 choice curling irons are:

1. Farouk CHI 1-inch Ceramic Ionic Spring Curling Iron

Remember:

-Look for a curling iron with not only one but multiple settings. This will allow selecting the enough amount of heat level for the hair.

-That using curling irons for too long or too often can dry out and sometimes burn the hair. Pay special attention to the number of usage each week and potential split ends. Trimming the hair on a regular basis can be a precaution of avoiding the damage to go up to the hair shaft.

-Curling irons come in different sizes. The narrower the barrel, the tighter and lasting the curl.

Hair Styles for Short Length Hair

I keep my hair about ear length and I never run out of ideas and I'm not getting bored with it. Here they are some hair styles I use and I can recommend to all of you.

Crimping.
Short hair gets really floofy and can to all sorts of spiff frizzy antigravity things when it's short.

Wee pigtails.
I like to pull sections from the top (the crown?) of my head and put them in little brightly colored rubberbands. Sometimes I just do two in the front, at others I do four, two in front and two in back. A variation on this is to use butterfly clips (or something similar) to hold them instead of rubberbands. More variety can be had by braiding the sections.

Pigtails.
Pull it all up into pigtails. You can get all sorts of looks from this depending on where you place them. For example, more towards the sides will give you a little-girl look, more towards the back can be more adult-looking (example would be Devi in I feel sick, if you've ever read that.)

Attachments.
I like to tie really long (butt-length and longer) ribbons into my hair. A blah ponytail changes to something really elegant when it has a long black velvet ribbon trailing from it. Just be careful not to sit on them, and be prepared to have people wanting to play with them when you wear them. And then of course, there are pony falls for when you really want long hair.

Bangs.
You can get a variety of looks by having them cut differently (examples, curved like Bettie Page, straight across like Louise Brookes, or pointed in a V) and dying them and bleaching them different colors from the rest of your head. You can get away with abusing them a lot more than the rest of your hair, too. An advantage to cutting them when your hair is short is that it will take less time for them to grow out when you get tired of them than if you had long hair. If you do cut bangs, it's a good idea to keep several headbands around for lazy days when you don't feel like styling them.

Buying Your Shampoo ? Three Myths to Avoid

More often than not, we are besieged with commercial advertisements that claim to do miraculous work with their different brands of shampoos. Million dollars have been spent to create hypes after hypes inasmuch as they provide more fictions than facts about their shampoos. Below there are some of the most common myths found with your shampoo.

1. Hair Types

When you read the commercial literature, talk with your sales girls, advertisement pamphlets, you are more often advised to buy your shampoo according to your hair types. However, this seems to be another marketing technique that is commonly adopted by big shampoo companies to create more market segmentations in order to sell their products. The truth is that the categories are created much more than you need. The logic is that the differences in terms of their ingredients are minimal. In fact, those shampoos have to share a lot more common ingredients such as surfactants, quaternary ammonium compounds, conditioning properties, sodium lauryl sulfate, water-binding properties, and preservatives in order to cleanse your hair and give your hair the best condition.

2. Natural Extracts

Herbal extract such as aloe vera appears to be another boosting factor that is commonly accepted as an important element in choosing your shampoos. Some elements that are contained in certain herbal extracts can be very benefit to your hair shafts. For example, anti-inflammatory elements and antioxidant. However, the truth is that those elements are easily wiped off when you try to rinse your hair after applying the shampoo during your shower. The fact is that they just do not 'stick' on your hair! Besides, some herbal extracts may do more harm than you expect. I will try to evaluate some of them in the near future.

3. Multi Vitamins

Besides those things mentioned above, you would find that vitamins not only could be taken orally in the nutritional industry but also can be applied to your hair shafts. The most common belief is that vitamin can nourish your hair. Nevertheless, there is no scientific research proving their effectiveness for hair care. The logic is simple. The process of digesting and absorbing a vitamin by oral can be very complicated. I would say too complicated! Such a process, which does much better by taking the vitamin orally, can hardly be transferred to external application. Furthermore, the ratio of vitamin that can provide protection or nourishment to a single hair shaft is minimal if compared with taking the vitamin orally. In short, the amount of vitamin is just insufficient to cover the amount of your hair shafts.

Power Play: Fall Beauty Trends Straight from the Runway

When Miuccia Prada abandoned her signature ladylike aesthetic in favor of dark chunky knits, animal prints, and sky-high platforms for her fall collection, she sent a strong message: The prim lady had officially been supplanted by the 21st-century uber-woman. (Presumably, the former muse is off fending for herself somewhere in the urban jungle?.) And Prada wasn?t alone: In New York, Milan, and Paris, the runway heroine du jour represented a dramatic departure from the fresh-faced girls and submissive sex kittens of seasons past. The sartorial shift was also accompanied by a new crop of beauty trends, with blood red lips eclipsing shimmer, smoldering eyes ousting beach-bunny bronzer, and pin-straight hair surpassing more romantic styles. Here, the top six beauty trends from the fall 2006 shows.

Hot Lips
Along with trousers, tulip skirts, and ankle boots, bold lipstick is part of the power woman?s fall uniform. (Think of it as war paint to ornament your new, no-nonsense attitude.) Tuleh?s ?40s-style collection inspired a high-sheen berry lip, while Valentino?s matte red added a shot of color to the designer?s largely colorless collection. Jill Stuart chose a glossy purple, while Behnaz Sarafpour, Miu Miu, and Diane von Furstenberg all opted for classic crimsons. At Alice Roy, nearly black lips were a perfect complement to the designer?s edgy, neo-punk vision.
Trend Tips: The key to wearing bold lip colors is keeping the rest of your makeup minimal (combining this trend with a smoky eye or heavy blush will lead to certain disaster). For more staying power, add a sheer coat of foundation to lips first, followed by a light dusting of powder and lipliner. Apply the color in several light coats, blotting with a tissue between each layer.
Best Bets: Nars Lipstick in Fire Down Below, Chanel Rouge Hydrabase in Shanghai Red, Tarte Double Ended Lipgloss in Bonnie & Clyde, Clinique Quickliner for Lips in Deep Red, Sephora Jumbo Pencil in Raspberry, Sally Hansen Diamond Lip Treatment in Always Asher.

The Eyes Have It
Eye makeup was unusually restrained for spring, but it made a serious comeback at the fall shows. At Allessandro Dell?Acqua, eyes were rimmed with sexy rock-goddess smudges; at Rochas, the lines were blurred with moody black shadows; and at Missoni and Narciso Rodriguez, the models wore thick ?80s-inspired liner on the bottom lids. Victor & Rolf and Armani both shifted the focus to the top lid with retro-style wings, while Zac Posen, J. Mendel, and Badgley Mischka opted for an eye that was both dramatic and wearable. You probably won?t see Christian Dior?s or Gucci?s theatrical looks at the office, but both will provide plenty of inspiration for more experimental beauty addicts.
Trend Tips: If you?re using a pencil that?s too hard, heat it under the hair dryer for a few seconds to soften the tip (just be careful not to melt the liner or burn yourself). If you have small eyes, keep the emphasis on top, rather than on the lower lid. And if you have bags or circles, use concealer?without it, dark liner will only emphasize undereye problems.
Best Bets: M.A.C. Eyeshadow in Black Tied, Urban Decay Glide-on Pencil in Zero, Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencil in Pointe-Noire, Goldie Smudgable Liquid Line in Maha, Too Faced Lava Gloss Super Glossy Eyeliner in Chocolate, NYC Brow/Eye Liner Pencil in 921.

Devil May Care
The minimalist makeup that swept the spring runways also made an appearance for fall. But this time, barely there faces seem to make a more subversive statement (think unabashedly naked, as opposed to coquettishly nude). In the absence of color, the spotlight shifted to a strong brow at Yves Saint Laurent, Chlo?, and Fendi, while Jil Sander?s and Balenciaga?s underdone approach put the models? luminous skin and bone structure center stage. At Marc Jacobs, carefully chosen hints of neutral color complemented the designer?s heavily layered collection.
Trend Tips: For a face that looks uncontrived but not disheveled, invest in a good-quality concealer and brow gel. To camouflage flaws and even out your complexion, use a tinted moisturizer or primer. And to keep skin from looking flat, sweep an iridescent highlighter along the cheeks and browbones.
Best Bets: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion, Benefit Moon Beam, Lauren Hutton Tinted Moisturizer + Sheer Concealer, Biotherm Light Catch Moisturizing Illuminating Concealer, Sue Devitt Aromatic Camouflage Concealer.

Lighter Side
Although dark lips ruled several runways, other designers opted for pale pouts?the perfect foil to this season?s intense eye makeup. Chanel?s beige lip evoked the ?60s, Dolce & Gabbana?s golden take complemented the designer?s opulent couture, and Burberry?s pale pink transformed the models from fresh-faced girls into cool ice queens. Alberta Ferretti?s powdery version was paired with a shimmery golden eye, while Celine and Carolina Herrera each offered a sheerer take on the trend.
Trend Tips: Although it?s stunning on the runway, a pale lip that?s too beige or matte can look deadly in real life. To keep from looking like a corpse, choose lipsticks and glosses with a little peach (if your skin tone is warm) or pink (if you?re cool), and finish with a dab of clear gloss.
Best Bets: M.A.C. Lipglass in Uberpeach, Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss, Jaqua Carmel Cappuccino Lip Whip, Shu Uemura Lolishine Rouge in 968, Too Faced Diamond Gloss in Lilac, Clarins Color Quench Lip Balm No. 10.

The Tip-Off
Nails went to extremes this season, from polish-free and clear-coated to dark, goth-style tips (with almost nothing in between). Gone were the brights, the glitter, and the nail art?fall?s sophisticated lady wears somber nail colors or none at all. Most designers chose a colorless look, including J. Mendel and Derek Lam. At Marc Jacobs, the models didn?t wear polish but kept their nails looking neat with Essie?s Cuticle Pen. In contrast, Nanette Lepore?s wore Essie?s Wicked, a rich burgundy-brown, while Alice Roy?s were treated to an even darker shade in keeping with the show?s nearly black lips.
Trend Tips: Colorless nails and dark, vampy enamels can both draw attention to imperfections, so be sure cuticles are neat. In addition, keep tips no longer than one-half the length of your nail bed, and use a ridge-filler or ridge-filling base coat to create a smooth surface.
Best Bets: Essie Cuticle Pen and Wicked Nail Colour, Lippmann Collection Nail Polish in Sophisticated Lady, OPI Ridge Filler, La Cross Curved-Blade Nail Scissors, Avon Nailwear Nail Enamel in Femme, Elizabeth Arden Nail Polish in Christopher St. Cappuccino C, Creative Nail Design Nail Polish in Voodoo.

Straight Edge
It seems like just last year?and it was?that women were finally ditching their flatirons, and granted, the shows did see several wavy styles and romantic updos. But the biggest news in hair was the return of long, pin-straight strands. Getting the look can be grueling for many women, but Carolina Herrera, Bill Blass, Luca Luca, Stella McCartney, and Versace all opted for sleek, center-parted locks. Pucci, Costume National, and Ralph Lauren chose similar styles with just a bit of bend on the bottom, while straight tresses were side-parted and left loose at Marni, casually secured at Moschino, and slickly swept at Giambattista Valli.
Trend Tips: For smoother results and to reduce the risk of damage, apply a dime-size amount of a heat-protecting and defrizzing product evenly throughout damp strands. When you blow-dry, work in small sections from the bottom to the top of your head, and if you?re using a flatiron, keep it moving to prevent singeing.
Best Bets: Farouk Chi Ceramic Flatiron, Sedu Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline Straightener, Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream, Ojon Hydrating Styling Cream, John Frieda Straight Answer Styling Spray, Philip B. Drop Dead Straightening Baume, ISO Tamer Smoothing Defrizzing Gel, Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum.

The Benefits of a Hair Analysis

Have you ever been to a medical doctor with persistent health symptoms, but the doctor can't see anything wrong and all the expensive lab tests merely determine nothing's there?

YOU know something's wrong though, because you are on the receiving end of the pounding headaches, the uncontrollable twitches in your arms and legs followed by shooting pains. YOU are the one who cannot get a good night's sleep. YOU know you are experiencing heart palpitations, dizziness, and blurred vision. And YOU are tired of STRESS as the blame while your doctor suggests you see a psychotherapist.

Well, your body can tell you what traditional medicine cannot?but you have to pay attention to what it's trying to translate using those disturbing health symptoms. Two ways to understand your body's ?cries for help? are to remove ALL foreign, man-made food chemicals from your diet, clean-up your outside environment, and get a hair analysis to determine what's going on inside of you.

The protein in your hair holds the composition of your body's tissues for a permanent period of time. This is why hair testing is used in forensic medicine. By analyzing toxin and nutrient levels using a hair analysis, a trained nutritionist can typically tell what toxins have accumulated in your body and what vitamins and minerals are depleted (in turn, causing an imbalance in body function). The hair analysis can clearly spell out what your body is trying to tell you using its symptomatic warning signs such as those nasty migraine headaches.

Humans are exposed to over 14,000 food chemicals daily. And, this doesn't take into account the abundant environmental toxins we are exposed to. The hair analysis is an excellent tool to identify specifically which toxins are inside your body and what vitamins and minerals they may have depleted.

As I discovered through my own disease recovery from an inaccurate diagnosis of ?Graves' Disease,? I couldn't fight what I couldn't see. It wasn't probable I would cure my disease if no one knew the cause, and unfortunately my internist didn't have a clue as to what caused my thyroid symptoms. The hair analysis was the road map I used to see what was going on inside of my body, and it helped me save my thyroid gland. I cured my ?incurable disease? in thirty days.

In most cases, the hair analysis can mark the root cause(s) of illness. But, the key to a good hair analysis is in the interpretation - a lost art amid traditional medicine, yet a critical step in disease recovery.

There are 3 factors that you should consider before changing your hair style. First you should look at your face shape and body structure. A short woman may not look all that great with very long hair and a tall woman may not look good with a very short hair style.

You can determine your face shape by pulling all of your hair back into a ponytail, away from your face. Take a piece of chalk, or something that is washable, and trace the outline of your face using a mirror. Stand back and look at the shape that you drew. Your face shape could be a combination of the basic face shape, or it is exactly like one of the basic face shapes.

Some of the basic face shapes include:

Square Face Shape: Layered bobs, wisps around the face, and long layers are generally recommended for this face shape. Avoid very short or cropped hair or slicked-back styles.

Round Face Shape: Usually a layered cut and/or feathered cut will accentuate your facial features. Avoid any width in the hair at the sides of your face as this will make your face seem rounder.

Oval Face Shape: The envy of us all--this shape can wear almost any type of hair. Layered, curly, short, long....anything.

Long Face Shape: Any hair cut that is below the chin is best for this face shape. Long Face Shapes should avoid short hair.

Heart Face Shape: Another envy of us all--this shape falls into the same category as the oval face where virtually any shape will look good.

The second factor that has a great effect on your hair style is your current lifestyle. How much time do you devote every day to styling your hair, washing your hair, etc. This can be very important when selecting a new hair style. If you select a high maintenance hair style and don't spend the time required to keep it looking good, you may not be very happy with the results.

The third factor for your hair style is color. Sometimes just a simple change of color or addition of highlights and lowlights can spruce up your style without having to do anything drastic. Color can do different things to your look. For example, adding a lighter or warmer color in the bang or crown area will lengthen your face. Whereas adding a darker or cooler color on the sides can decrease the width of the face.

Adding a lighter color to the sides will widen the face. Color can be used to create texture and accents to a hair style. Consult with your stylist for the best color combinations to use for your hair.

In short, if you are looking for a new or updated hair style, there are many different options available for you. You don't need to do anything drastic to look different. Facial Hair RemovalWhat is Best for You

In the circus, the bearded lady is an attraction that every person wants to see. However, this is not the case in everyday life; it is a very secure woman that feels comfortable with noticeable facial hair. Therefore, for most women it is important to have an effective means of facial hair removal.

Sugaring is becoming a popular alternative to waxing, which can cause redness and bumps on the skin. This method involves placing a syrup ball, made of sugar, water and lemon juice, onto the skin and then quickly striping it back off. The striping motion removes the hair by the root. Sugaring is also a good alternative for anyone who has had burned skin due to wax that was applied while it was too hot.

Shaving is never recommended for facial hair removal in women. Shaving needs to be done on a daily basis and causes the hair to grow back darker and more course than before. While all of the other methods listed are equally acceptable for both men and women, shaving should only be attempted by a man.

Another temporary, but rather affective form of facial hair removal is waxing. Waxing consists of applying hot wax to the area where hair is to be removed. The wax is then pulled in the opposite direction of hair growth, taking the hair with it. This method of hair removal is expected to last four to six weeks for most people. One point of interest, when hair is removed via waxing, it tends to grow back lighter and finer than before. Be very careful when waxing as the wax can be hot enough to scald the skin.

There are several ways to remove facial hair in women including waxing, using a depilatory cream or bleaching. The easiest, least painful and most cost effective is to use a depilatory cream. This solution works by changing the chemical makeup of the hair at the skin line, making it easy to wipe away. While this is effective, it is not long lasting, usually needing to be repeated every three to five days. Be sure, when choosing this option to only use a cream that is formulated for the face, creams that are to be used on other parts of the body may cause irritation to the face.

Fashion Wigs Change Your Image in Seconds!

Do you want to be a blonde one day and a redhead the next? One way to do this is to dye your own hair and restyle it, but you can achieve the same effect with much less effort - just buy a wig. To select a wig that would be indistinguishable from real human hair and become your favorite fashion accessory, though, you need to know a few insider tips.

First of all, if you?re worried that a wig will not look natural on your head, never fear! A properly made wig - even the quality synthetic varieties - can look totally realistic.

Which is best - synthetic or human hair wigs?

Wigs can be synthetic or made from real human hair. Synthetic wigs are cheaper, but the very cheap ones you can find online don?t look real enough. On the other hand, high quality synthetic wigs like Revlon, Raquel Welch or Paula Young wigs look very real. Also, synthetic wigs are easier to care for, as you don?t need to restyle them every time you wash them.

Real human hair is in limited supply, so human hair wigs are much more expensive; typically they several hundred dollars. Human hair wigs look and feel very natural. However, it is important to know that the quality of your wig depends on the origin of the hair used. The cheapest hair comes from Asian countries, but their texture is different from the hair of European women. The best human hair wigs are made from European hair but, unfortunately, they cost a small fortune.

What wigs styles are available?

You can get ? wigs as well as full wigs. A full wig covers your entire head, so none of your own hair is visible. This type of wig is great when you want to try a color different from your own.

A ? wig is clipped to the top of your head. Because your original hairline is visible, the wig looks very natural. Also, your head doesn?t get ?toasted? under a wig cap. On the downside, though, three quarter wigs have to match your hair color very closely, otherwise it won?t look convincing. It is best not to buy this type of wig online because the colors on the color charts are usually not very accurate.

A very interesting style of wig is the headband wig. A headband wig is a full wig with a headband attached to its front. It is especially useful if you are always in a hurry, because the headband ensures that none of your own hair is visible. This style is recommended if your natural hair is a dramatically different color from the wig.

Wigs come in all shapes and styles - from very short to 30 inches long, in straight, curly, wavy, braided, layered, spiky or ?the wet look?. It is important that you look at many styles before you decide which one your heart desires.

It is a good idea to have your wigs customized, too. If you can find a hair salon that can trim your wig to make it fit your face shape, go for it. Customizing a wig isn?t cheap, of course, but it will make your new wig look more realistic and suitable for your face.

If you feel like a change, get yourself a wig. It is amazing, how much having a different hairstyle can transform a person. And for a woman it is always important to vary her image and look fresh.

Wedding Hair Styles How To Avoid Disaster

WEDDING HAIR TIPS OTHER SALONS WON?T TELL YOU

Wedding Hair Styles- Your wedding hair planning has begun. It seems that there are so many details you must complete at the same time. You?ve imagined that you?ll have the most beautiful of wedding hair styles.

But will it match with your wedding dress and wedding hair accessories and will it be complimented by the bridal hair styles of your bridesmaids? All of this wedding stuff already has you almost overwhelmed, so you think, ?I need help?.

You?ve come to the right place. I?ll help you look like the stunning, romantic, storybook bride that you always fantasized that you?d be. You see, for over 20 years I have helped brides with their wedding hair and bridal makeup.

Finally I will give you some inside information that other salons don?t want you to know regarding wedding hair styles services and contracts.

WEDDING HAIR STYLES- WHERE DO YOU START?

Wedding hair styles and bridal makeup plans should be formulated at least 3-4 months before the event. Have your hair stylist show you some pictures of their work on brides or of special event hair styles. Bring the wedding hair pictures displaying the styles you like the best.

Pictures of wedding hair styles are one of the best ways to avoid bridal hair disasters. Pictures will help eliminate misunderstandings between you and your hair stylist.

Be practical. Try a style that is comfortable for dancing and moving around. Consider the wedding location?s climate (humid, dry, wet, cold, too hot). Make a selection from wedding hair styles that will match with the style of your dress. Keep your desired bridal hair styles in mind when picking out accessories.

ACCESSORIES AND BRIDAL MAKE UP

Wedding Hair Accessories like hair ornaments and headpieces should not overpower your wedding hair. If you plan to wear a more elaborate headpiece, your wedding hair style should be simple. Bridal Tiaras can be very flattering.

Very simple jewelry will do for the bridesmaids. Stick with earrings, bracelets, or rings, but avoid necklaces. The entire bridal party should have one theme for the wedding hair styles and bridal make-up. However the bridal party could all have different hair lengths, color and texture of hair.

Your bridal make-up should emphasize the eyes, lips, and skin-tone as these parts should be camera friendly at all times. Remember that bridesmaids are to compliment the bride and are not there to overshadow her.

WEDDING HAIR STYLES TYPE

It is not a bad idea to have an up-do, if your dress covers all the way to the neck. Don?t be afraid of a short hair style especially if you are petite. Short hair can be one of the more sexy wedding hair styles.

It is usually better to not to request a classic hair do with a contemporary wedding dress. If you have your heart set on one of the classic wedding hair styles, then it should be a casual one.

For a modern or classic Victorian style, one of the beach wedding hair styles is better when it is a basic chignon or down hair style with simple, loose curls. Soft curls give you a very romantic look. This goes for the bridesmaids as well. It is better that they all follow the same pattern.

The bridal party should wear the same color and style of dress as well as a similar hairstyle. For example, either all the bridesmaids should wear flowers in their hair or no one should at all.

WEDDING HAIR STYLES TRYOUT SERVICE

What?s the best way to check the look of all the wedding hair styles in your bridal party? Easy, it is to have your entire bridal party make a visit to a salon for a wedding hair style tryout.

Salons usually give a tremendous discount for wedding hair style tryout service since they know you will like their work and that subsequently you will book your wedding party with them. It is common for salons to present a contract to brides.

WEDDING HAIR STYLES CONTRACTS

Make sure to read your contract carefully before signing. Read every word and make sure to ask questions if you don?t understand something. If you are uncomfortable with the wording, it is fair to ask that the contract be changed.

Don?t just gloss over the details of the contract. It should include important information such as the date of your wedding, the types of wedding hair styles and bridal make up services to be rendered.

Many salons will ask for a deposit to hold the appointment in advance. Some contracts will state that deposits are nonrefundable.

If your wedding hair styles contract has such a clause determine if there is a grace period. Pay a percentage of the service and not the whole price. Also make payment with a credit card. Should there be a problem or dispute, you will have a better chance of getting your money back.

CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER!

Laser Hair Removal Does It Help?

Since the 1990?s laser hair removal as given people an effective answer to problems with unseemly hair. Its popularity since first being introduced to the general public as continued to grow as people look for a more permanent solution to unsightly hair. This article looks to give you some of the facts behind this modern day treatment.

During treatment, the laser emits a beam of warm light that passes safely through the skin and targets the unwanted hair follicles. This beam of light has enough energy to destroy the cells at the root of the unwanted hair follicles. The treatment is most effective when new hairs are starting their growth cycle. Thus, because our hair grows in cycles, several treatments may be necessary to eradicate the problem.

Generally, there is but a little discomfort when undergoing the treatment. Some patients have described feeling a slight tingling or snapping sensation. However, if you have any concerns, the technician can apply an anesthetic to the area to be treated. After your treatment, there may be a little swelling and your skin will look red, very similar to sunburn.

Your session will normally last around 10-60 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. Obviously a larger area, like your back, will take much longer than a smaller area, like your lip. You will also find that it takes several treatments to the area being treated, as the laser can only target the growing hair follicles at any one time. Usually you can expect around three such sessions.

The majority of people undergoing laser hair removal, are in the main, very satisfied with its effects. So much so, that many of them return for treatments in other areas also. It may not be the cheapest option, but undoubtedly, it?s one of the most effective. The costs vary from clinic to clinic and of course, the size of the area being treated will have a large effect on the fees you will be charged. But the average session would normally be around $400-$500.

Hair Highlighting 101

Highlighting can add the illusion of depth, volume and texture to your hair. The process involves coloring some strands of your hair - making it lighter or darker, depending on your overall look (color of your skin, eyes, hair) and your desired look. Your highlights should compliment your natural color, not giving it an odd contrast or contrived color. Highlighting is also a great way to start if you have doubts in coloring or dying your hair.

Three things to remember before highlighting:

1. Go light or go home

Usually, in using a color for highlights, you go two or three shades lighter than your original hair color. Going beyond three shades will look extremely unnatural and peculiar.

2. Condition your hair to avoid drying

Deep condition your hair or use a clarifying treatment at least three days before highlighting because some chemicals in hair color can seriously dry your hair. After coloring, some prefer to shampoo immediately after. But, it is better to shampoo your hair a day after - this will help maintain the color.

3. Consider lowlights

You also have the option to have lowlights with your highlights which can give your hair more dimension. Lowlights make your hair darker in shade. It will make the top of your hair look heavier than the bottom. But, it is best to go to your professional stylist when trying both highlights and lowlights.

Tips for hair highlighting

- Mix two or more colors. Experiment and be creative. Just remember to use the color mix once you combine them.

- If you bought a highlighting kit, you can observe that the brush they use don?t really give you much control. Flat acrylic brushes measuring ? - ? inch, which can be bought at art supply or hardware stores, give you a better grip thus making the highlights look more natural.

- Always protect your skin from hair color because it contains chemicals that can be damaging.

- Use latex gloves and make sure they fit snugly.

- Apply highlights only to the top layer of your head to create that depth and dimension you want to achieve.

Streaking

Streaking is used for a sleeker and glossier effect. You can go for half-head or full-head. Half-head streaking gives your hair brighter effects done really close to the hairline. This is done through bleaching and wrapping small or thick strands of your hair in foil paper.

While whole-head streaking involves bleaching and coloring the entire head, thus producing a blonde effect. Darker streaks are placed closer to the hairline. Both procedures need a touch-up every six to eight weeks before growth of new hair becomes noticeable.

D-I-Y streaking is another method used for dry hair. Best results are seen for medium-brown to light-brown hair. A streaking kit is available at the shop, but it should include a rat-tail brush, toothbrush, a non-metal bowl for the bleach, foil paper and a couple of clips.

To do, part a thin portion of your hair at the top part of the head using the comb. Place a 5 cm foil strip under it. Take the toothbrush with bleach and swathe over the parted hair. Cover it with foil strip. Take another part of the hair about 1.25 cm below and continue the process until the desired effect is achieved.

Check the color of the wrapped hair - it should be golden. If not, reapply bleach and leave for a couple of minutes. While taking out the foil wraps, ask a friend to help you rinse with warm water to take off the bleach. Apply shampoo and conditioner after unveiling the wraps.

Finger painting

Finger painting is a method for a subtler effect. Run four fingers from your hairline to the back of the crown after dipping it in bleaching solution. Do it as if pushing back the hair from your face. Don?t forget to use gloves. Follow the instructions at the back of the carton, like how long to leave the hair before rinsing, shampooing and conditioning.

Shampoos

The most practical and cost effective way to extend the duration of your highlights is the use of color tinted shampoos. Since these are temporary, you just stop using a certain color of shampoo if you don?t like it or if you want to try other colors. You can even use them on their own, although the effect will be less.

Straighten Up Curly!

It's hard to imagine the difficulties women went through to straighten their hair back in the good old days. With no specialty tools available at the time, women had to use things like a clothing iron to get the desired look. Dangerous and damaging, but there was no other choice, then.

Today there are effective appliances and products that will help ease the transition from curly to straight.

Going Straight

Getting your hair straight is not a quick and easy task, especially if your hair is extremely curly. Thick or long curly hair can take hours to get right.

So, this is certainly not a quick style change to try before a first date.

But it is certainly doable. However, there are some steps you should take to make the process easier.

The Process

Begin by washing and conditioning your hair. Use a deep conditioner, otherwise straightening hair can leave it dry and damaged. Towel-dry your hair and apply a straightening gel. The gel will help prep your hair for the process. Allow your hair to partially air dry before bringing out the hair dryer.

Pin the top portions of your hair up on top of your head. Work just 1 section of your hair at a time. Use a brush (flat paddle or round) to pull a small section of hair straight while drying it with a hair dryer.

Repeat this process, section by section, until all of your hair is dry.

If your hair is very curly, you will probably see some frizz. Don?t worry; this will go away when the process is finished.

You are now prepped and ready to straighten.

The Tool

The best tool for straightening curly hair is called a flat iron, which come in several different widths. The best one for our purpose is 1.5 inches wide. This is easier to work with and provides better control than larger models.

Most flat irons have multiple temperature settings. Hair types respond to heat uniquely, so you must experiment. Until you know otherwise, start with the lowest setting and work your way up in temperature until you get the results you want.

You can get one at most drug stores or beauty shops. You want a ceramic model for stubborn curly hair. Prices range from $30 to $200. Don?t buy the most expensive flat iron at first. Sometimes the cheaper models work just as well.

The most important key to straightening success is good prep. With well prepped hair, any reputable flat iron should give you a smooth, frizz-free look.

Everyday Ways to Care for Your Hair

Health, strength and beauty of hair depends primarily on its nerve vigor and the good circulation of the oily scalp secretion which gives it gloss and luster. Beauty is not so much a matter of color where hair is concerned. If your hair has a fine glow, a rich sheen, is thick and long, it will be beautiful irrespective of its pigmentation. Hair often makes an otherwise plain person beautiful. And practically every woman, if she cares to make the effort, may have beautiful hair.

SOME HAIR HINTS

If you have the least suspicion of a curl in your hair, brushing around rather than straight will bring it out. Do not worry if you shed your hair. It is natural for the hair to shed ? and to keep right on growing in again. Only see to it that the ingrowth is equal to the loss by shedding.

No young girl should use a rat. Metal combs should be tabooed. Keep the hairbrush you use for dandruff stiff, the polishing brush may be softer. Use a hair net that matches your own hair color, and do not get too small a one. Remove snarls and tangles in the hair gently, with fingers, before brushing. The three-weekly or monthly shampoo is a good rule. If you wash your hair too often, it will turn dry and brittle and change color.

The hair should never be worn done up constantly. This is injurious because every part of the hair should have frequent air and sun baths. For normal shampoo employ Castile, tar or vegetable soaps, and Green soap for oily hair. A good egg shampoo may be made of an egg, thoroughly beaten, one tablespoon alcohol, four ounces bay rum, a pinch of borax, and four ounces of Castile soap mixed in a pint of hot water, to be used when cool.

Hair that is blonde or ruddy, as well as gray hair, may be washed with Castile soap jelly plus a quarter-teaspoonful of borax. Always comb and brush thoroughly, with finger-tip massage. After shampooing is the best time for scalp massage, hair pulling and skin loosening.

DRY SHAMPOO AND SCALP MASSAGE

The scalp and hair should be cleansed between shampoos. For this purpose the dry shampoo is necessary. It is actually a form of scalp massage. Preparations of orris, corn meal and other dry shampoo powders are not recommended. They stick, and it is hard to get them out of the hair. A vigorous rubbing of the scalp after the hair has been parted, using a small piece of muslin over the tip of the finger, is best. Hot and cold applications are good, with or without shampoo, especially if the hair is falling. Remember that the hair should not be hot-air dried. The hot-air cone used for the purpose in hairdressing establishments destroys the hair. Human hair should always be dried by hand.

Scalp massage makes the hair grow and prevents many hair troubles. A five-minute finger-tip mas- sage, night and morning, is the one ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure. The electrical massage by a professional (after a shampoo), the violet ray, and the rubber-disk vibrator are all excellent for the hair. They strengthen and stimulate.

HAIR TONICS

Massage is the first and best hair tonic. Though a good scalp lotion may stimulate circulation, massage always does so more directly. In general it will be wise to remember that tonics are meant for specific purposes of cure for hair disorders, rather than for common use. A little refined beef marrow rubbed gently into the hair roots is a good natural tonic (though an old-fashioned one) and together with plenty of fresh air and sunshine, does more for the hair than all the compounded tonics and restorers marketed. Every woman can keep her hair in good condition if she chooses to. If she cannot give it attention in the morning she shoulcf do so at night.

HAIR TROUBLES

Most hair troubles could be prevented in the start by ordinary good care of the hair, and the maintenance of the state of general good health. Of course, various diseases affect the hair: fever dries it out and makes it fall; syphilis and other sex diseases poison and destroy it. Some skin diseases have the same effect. In general, if you are healthy, broadly speaking, your hair will be healthy too.

Dandruff? What we have to deal with in dandruff is a horny layer cast off by the scalp. This layer thickens, closes the pores, diminishes the hair's oil supply, and prevents the perspiration glands from getting rid of waste. Soon the hair loses tone and color, and is covered with whitish powder. Then it starts to itch and fall. In an advanced state of the disease, the hair falls out, and blood crusts form on the scalp as a result of scratching. Digestive disorders, toxic elements in the blood or local irritation may cause dandruff, and it is communicable.

Daily care of the scalp, massage and brushing, if persisted in when the disorder first appears, are very beneficial. The crude oil massage of the scalp, not the hair, is excellent and often effects a cure. A massage every night, using vaseline or olive oil, together with repeated shampoos, also helps to do away with dandruff. Although pomades in general should be avoided, a pomade with a precipitated sulphur base, mixed with glycerine, rose-water, lanoline, and soap, or a sulphur ointment or cream kills the dandruff germ.

There is an oily dandruff, also, though the disease is most commonly a dry scalp one. Shampoo with tincture of Green soap should cure this type of the disease in about a week's time. If you have dandruff, observe a regular diet, and stick as much as possible to milk and fresh fruit.

Falling Hair.?An acid condition of the blood encourages the hair to fall. Correct it and you will have removed the cause of your complaint. The use of the violet ray and the vibrator, which hold down the tendency to an oily scalp, is also valuable for hair treatment in this connection. So, too, are hot and cold applications.

HAIR DISEASES WHICH SHOULD NOT OCCUR

Favus, the development of yellow scalp crusts, accompanied by severe itching, bald spots and a musty odor, is a dirt disease, hence inexcusable in a woman, unless as a result of infection. To remove it the scalp must be soaked in olive oil for a few days, carbolic acid being mixed with it in a weak solution, the hair pulled out of the most infected areas, the crusts removed, and the whole scalp shampooed with an antiseptic soap.

Ringworm is usually a gift of those evil things, the common property comb and brush, or the patent hair clipper. Rubbing with sulphur ointment, washing with bichloride soap, or painting with iodine, to precede the application of a cleansing ointment, is the treatment. It is dangerous since it may result in baldness.

Head lice (which may be cured by saturating the hair with kerosene or crude petroleum at night, wrapping in a towel to retain fumes, and following by antiseptic soap shampoo) is a most disgusting trouble, and unless communicated cannot occur except as a result of neglect and uncleanliness. The possibility of contagion constitutes the menace of all three of these diseases.

Winter Hair Care Tips for Long Hair

The winter months literally assault hair in the worst way, if you do not prepare it for the most rigorous season of the year. While the first snow falls outside your home, the first dandruff signals may appear over your shoulders. Such flaking occurs due to excessive cell production but it can be prevented by using a good dandruff shampoo on a regular basis.

This time of the year is when long hairstyles are not only recommended and desirable as they are the perfect complement for the many festivities occurring during the winter season, including Christmas and New Year. As the winter is approaching, natural hair care needs to be adjusted to keep it from damage, which is caused by the elements of the weather.

Winter can ruin your personal appearance when it comes to choosing an incredible and stylish hairdo and dry flaking scales of skin start snowing of your head as a result of dandruff, causing persistent scaling or itching of the scalp. Apply dandruff shampoo to your hair when you are not suffering from dandruff is also a good preventative measure.

The strong winds of the season are a danger that no type of hair care can resolve without the aid of hair conditioners that help to moisture the dryness of your hair. Some women prefer to wear hats, scarves or even wigs to protect their hair. That practice is not accurate, since hair can snag and break. Besides, long wig hairstyles are anti-natural.

Unless your hair is severely damaged, avoid wigs and do not use hats without protecting your hair with a silk scarf. No matter how cold the winter weather, keep your hair care routine, and use a dandruff shampoo to control dandruff or prevent it. Browse through magazines or pictures online to find modern or classic long hairstyles prior to winter to find the perfect hairstyle and then let your hair grow long enough to accommodate the style that you have chosen.

If winter weather is too rigorous in your city with cold harsh air, you may damage your hair if you do not prepare ahead of time with the proper hair care. Humidifiers are useful during this season because they add moisture to your environment hydrating your home's air, but if you do not wish to use one, simply set a pot of water on your stove, and let the water steam into the air, which will prevent dandruff as well.

As for your long hair care, air dry it whenever possible, concentrate the conditioner on its ends, wash it under the shower and leave it hanging down. As part of your hair care, make sure to use a dandruff shampoo and do a final rinse in cold water disregard the cold winter temperatures, keep a super absorbent hair drying towel close by, and remember, never brush your hair when it is wet which can cause the hair to break.

Natalie Aranda writes about health, beauty and hair care. This time of the year is when long hair styles are not only recommended and desirable as they are the perfect complement for the many festivities occurring during the winter season.

The Importance Of Body Wash

As tradition goes we have been using soap since the time we are born. Before soap, there must have been some other and more natural product considering the time factor. It has been a very important part in cleaning our body. Even though soaps used are more chemical based which can cause harm to anyone?s body. New products have always come in the market and keep getting better every time and are more considerate towards your body.

Now things have changed, even soaps have a stiff competition from the body wash. It is said that the body wash are better in cleaning your body due to the liquid which has the properties of the necessary nutrients for gentle exfoliation. This becomes very important as our body goes through wear and tear and it needs to relax which can happen by the use of different types of body wash.

The different type of body washes help in rejuvenating your skin and hydrating your dehydrated body. Different type of herbal products which are used are yogurt, cucumber, aloe Vera, vitamins B, strawberry, lavender, coco, oatmeal, rosemary, lavender and many more to add that touch of perfection to your body. It has a lasting smell which keeps you as well as others fresh with a lingering aroma.

These herbal products just make your bath more than a daily chore. It becomes an experience which you comes across everyday while having a bath. A fresh morning and a refreshing evening which can be very beautiful and very exciting start of the day. The use of herbal products makes a lot of difference. But you should keep in mind that this stuff should be genuine enough to be used on your body. So buy products which are from a good brand and are easily available.

Human Hair Extensions Create Beautiful Long Hair Styles Instantly

As you glance across virtually every print medium such as newspapers, magazines and catalogs, there seems to be one thing in common as far as hair cut styles is concerned. The long hair cut style is everywhere. So what are you supposed to do if you don?t have long hair and you really want the long hair cut style? Well, let?s see, human hair grows about ?? per month, so if your hair is at ear level, that would be almost two years to wait for that ?hair cascading down your back? look. And of course by the time you grow your hair out, the short hair cut style will be in.

?Don?t limit yourself to just adding length to your hair. Hair extensions offer a simple solution to fine hair and can add a little pizzazz to thick, curly or wavy hair in any color or style.?

Rod Sickler
Owner

Rantoul, Illinois

In today?s society, two-year waits are OUT and immediate results are IN. The beauty industry recognized the demand for instant long natural looking hair and thus today?s hottest trend was born?Human Hair Extensions. Hair extensions are not only for lengthening your hair, according to Rod Sickler, owner of Images by Rod & Company and Sexy Hair Concepts Artistic Team Member.

?Any hair type can support hair extensions?, says Sickler. Sickler makes hair extensions easy by creating cutting-edge hair styles for his clients. Some examples include sleek and straight hair, vivacious ringlets and striking color enhancements with the use of different highlighted and lowlighted hair extensions. He describes the hair extension process as very painstaking and challenging as it requires many hours and various techniques to complete. The rewards are many as he is able to re-invent hair, tweak techniques and fulfill his clients? needs.

One of Sicklers? hair extension clients, Holly Leach of Rantoul, Illinois, says she wanted to get hair extensions because she was ready for a change and wanted Sickler to re-invent her look by adding thickness and length to her thinning hair with European Hair Extensions. She was absolutely amazed at the results. ?I came into the salon (Images by Rod & Company) looking one way, and came out looking totally different?, says, Leach. Leach has had her hair extensions for about 5 months now, with absolutely no issues and no complaints. She maintains the hair extensions with non-soy based conditioning shampoo and moisturizers from Sexy Hair Concepts, and uses hair dryers and curling irons with no problems. Leach concludes,?Hair Extensions are worth the time and money, when you can get fabulous-looking long hair instantly?.

Hair extensions are a huge self-esteem booster because they give women the opportunity to get the long hair style look without the wait Guinevere Werr

Manager, The Spa East Bank Club, Chicago, Ill

Some women are concerned or have heard that hair extensions can cause damage to their natural hair, or even loss of hair. Guinevere Werr, Manager of The Spa at the East Bank Club in Chicago, Ill, says the fusion application method Sickler uses from So.Cap., an Italian company, does not create any damage to the natural hair since it is applied ?? from the scalp and not directly on the scalp. Werr assisted Sickler with applying brown hair extensions with some highlight extensions to her sisters? hair. She adds that Sicklers hair extension clients have lost almost no hair extensions and have had very little maintenance issues.

So where do you start if you are thinking of getting hair extensions? You must research the different types of hair used for hair extensions, the different types of attachment methods, the hair stylists? education and training, any maintenance schedules and of course the cost.

There are a lot of different types of hair that are used for hair extensions. There is human hair and synthetic hair. Synthetic hair is used to add the high fashion colors, such as pinks and blues. Generally speaking, if you are going for the natural, it grew out of my head, look you should go with human hair. Human hair comes in many different textures and grades. The human hair must be strong and healthy to produce extensions that will last and wear without tangling or drying. European human hair is well- known as quality human hair used for extensions.

There are three basic techniques to attach the hair. They are fusion or strand by strand, weaving and bonding. There are many variations to these techniques and they are sometimes called by different names.

Fusion/strand by strand: This process is done strand by strand in small sections using heated adhesive sticks or glue specifically made for hair extensions. Extension hair is added directly to your own hair. Sickler uses the fusion method from the Italian company So.Cap. Hair is attached about ? ?from your scalp and looks totally natural. Sickler comments, ?No one can visually see that you have hair extensions. It?s up to you if you want everyone to know?.

Weaving is a process where a corn row or track is created around the head and close to the scalp. Extension hair is sewn on the tracks. Your own hair lies over the tracks for a natural look. Bonding is a process where bonding glue is applied onto the weft of the extension hair and then applied at the root of your hair. A weft is horizontal hair strands attached together at the top of vertically flowing hair strands. Wefts can be machine-made or handmade.

There are some disadvantages to each of these methods. Sometimes if the hair extension application method is not done properly, the hair extensions will simply fall out, or cause damage to your natural hair. Also, with additional pressure to your scalp from the weight of the heavy extensions, there could be some thinning of your natural hair and/or headaches as you adapt to the new weight. There have been some reports of allergies to the chemicals that are used. You should discuss the disadvantages of hair extensions thoroughly with your hair stylist so that there are no surprises.

The hair extension training and education your hair stylist has received is very important to the success of their work. Sickler received his hair extension training from renowned expert, Joseph Accola, and he keeps up-do-date on techniques by attending beauty shows across Europe where hair extensions are more popular than in the U.S. ?Hair extension education and training are paramount to successful hair extensions for any hair stylist?, says Sickler. If you are looking for a hair stylist to do hair extensions and they don?t have the proper training, you could be very disappointed with the results.

After you have your hair extensions in place, you will need to schedule regular maintenance visits to check your extensions. How often you need to go back will depend on the type of hair and the method of attachment that was used. As your hair grows out, some of the hair extensions will need to be removed and replaced or touched up.

On a day-to-day basis you should treat your human hair extensions as you would long hair. Brush, shampoo, condition and moisturize on a regular basis. Some hair stylists will recommend specific high-quality hair care products to use with your extensions. You can also use hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons on most types of human hair extensions. Color treatments can be done on the hair extensions, but you should consult with your hair stylist before considering this. Monthly color touch-ups to your roots will not be a problem, as the hair extensions will not be touched.

Although it doesn?t hurt physically to get hair extensions, it may hurt you financially. There really is no way around this factor. To get good hair extensions on your whole head, you will need quality human hair, an experienced hair stylist, at least one assistant and about 6-8 hours of time. The ticket price can vary from $150-$2000 depending on what you are having done. Adding a few highlights or lowlight hair extensions can be quite less as the time and amount of hair needed is less.

In short, here are ten tips to follow after you have decided you want to get hair extensions and have selected a beauty salon. To find beauty salons that do hair extensions, you can look in the yellow pages or search online. The beauty salon directory at www.hairresources.com will allow you to search for ?hair extensions in your City, State.

1.After selecting a salon, schedule an initial consultation to discuss what you would like to have done and any concerns that you have. 2. Ask about what hair extension experience your hair stylist has and where they received their training.

3. Make sure the hair stylist listens and understands your needs and concerns. Does he/she communicate well with you?

4. The hair stylist should ask you about your lifestyle, health, hobbies and your normal hair routine

5. An analysis of your scalp and hair should be done at the initial consultation to make sure your hair is in a condition for successful hair extensions.

6. Ask to see before and after photos of hair extension clients

7. Ask for references and be sure to call them

8. Ask how often the average client needs to replace the hair. This is very important for anticipating future costs

9. Get a written estimate for your hair extensions with an itemized list of the services required to achieve your new look

10.Get a written maintenance plan. Plan should include recommendations for products, grooming tools, follow-up appointments and any special instructions.

Hair extensions have many advantages and several disadvantages that should be addressed, but if you want to create an instant long hair style, human hair extensions are the way to go

Wigs: The Good The Bad And The Ridiculous

While many people purchase a wig to change their style or to create a dramatic look for a special night, others wear wig hairpieces on a daily basis to conceal thinning hair or to cover baldness resulting from an illness. But no matter why you choose to wear a wig, there are a few things that you should keep in mind before you purchase one and incorporate wigs into your style.

There are many different types of wigs available and they can range from being inexpensive to extremely expensive. For the most part, the old saying, you get what you pay for, is true when it comes to purchasing wig hairpieces. The more you spend, the higher quality wig you'll get in return. And a higher quality hairpiece means that it will remain beautiful versatile for years to come.

Perhaps the most deciding factor that will help you decide how much to spend on your wig is how you are going to use it. If you are only going to use your wig occasionally for special events, you may be able to get by with an inexpensive wig. But since most inexpensive wigs are made with synthetic hair, it is almost impossible to match them up with your existing hair color or to achieve a truly natural look. Inexpensive wig hairpieces are also not finely wefted. That means that more hair is sewn into one weft of the wig instead of distributed throughout the wig evenly resulting in a baby doll hair look if you're not careful.

Other things to consider before you go by an inexpensive wig, is how you are going to style the hairpiece. Synthetic hair cannot be colored, permed or curled with thermal tools. So, your styling and change-out options with an inexpensive wig are limited.

All of these drawbacks make the natural-hair wig your best bet especially if you wear a wig on a daily basis. While this hairpiece may be a little more expensive, you can color it, cut it and curl it just like you would your own hair because it is real hair. Wig hairpieces made with natural hair also look more natural in sunlight and under certain lights than do wigs made with synthetic hair strands.

Even natural hair wigs, though, come with a wide variety of prices. The prices vary according to quality and length of the hair used and the craftsmanship of the hairpiece itself. Again, you get what you pay for.

If you plan to wear your wig daily, you should also look for wig hairpieces that are light and finely woven. The wig should allow a good amount of air to circulate through the wig and onto your scalp. This is not only for your own comfort but for the well being of your own hair. Tight and constrictive wigs can cause friction and cut off the blood supply to your scalp resulting in hair loss.

So, before you buy a wig, investigate all of your options carefully. Choosing a good wig now may save you money in the end because you will probably never have to replace it.

How Can Waxing Rid You Of Unsightly Body Hair?

Are you using waxing as a hair removal technique? If not, then you should consider it. The process of waxing is very old and one that has been used in one way or another for thousands of years (dating back to ancient Egypt even) and can work very well for you today. What is it? It is the removal of hair from the root through a process of applying a wax and then quickly removing it. And, yes, waxing does hurt a bit but it is only temporary and can give you hair free results for up to six to eight weeks. All in all, it can be well worth it.

Where To Wax?

Waxing can safely be done throughout the body. Individuals use it for their legs, eyebrows, bikini areas and much larger hairs such as their chest, stomach and back. You can have it done so that you can shave time off of your swimming competition or to help you to just look the way that you enjoy looking.

What Is It?

What?s in the wax? The mixture that you will use is a combination of paraffin or beeswax and natural oils. These products are chosen since they work well with the body and stick to the skin. There are two types, cold and hot waxing. Some have supplements in them to help improve the skin?s feel and texture.

Hot Waxing: In this method of waxing, a hot but comfortable temperature is used for the wax. It is spread onto the area in the direction of the hair growth. When the wax cools, it is torn off quickly in the opposite direction, pulling the hair out with it. Usually, this gives the best results in waxing.

Cold Waxing: In this method of waxing, the strips of cloth are coated with the wax and them applied to the skin. The strips are rubbed in the direction of the hair growth and then ripped off in the opposite direction.

After you wax your skin, you can use a treatment of a non perfumed moisturizer. This will help to restore the feel of the skin by adding Vitamin B and Aloe Vera to it. Whatever you do, you do not want to go swimming, use a spa or hot tub, tan, or apply perfume, deodorant or other chemicals to the area that was just waxed as these can cause infections and pain.

It is important that you carefully look at your skin prior to using any type of waxing. You should not use in areas where there are open sores, infection, moles, warts or other skin irritations. You should never attempt to wax eyelashes, ear hair, nose hair or nipple hair. And, you should make sure that you use the appropriate combination of wax for specific areas such as pubic hair. Make sure to test the temperature of the wax so that you do not get burned too.

Waxing has been around for centuries because it is an effective way to remove hair. There are not normally side effects besides a little bit of pain and redness. And, you can do it at home or in a salon. Waxing is an effective method to remove unwanted hair from virtually every area of your body.

Taking Care Of Your Hair Naturally

Your hair is your crowning glory and most people want it to look lustrous and natural so it?s a wonder so many of us over process our hair with hair color and other treatments. This processing can damage your hair and leave it dried out and dull. Of course, there is a plethora of products on the market that will claim to restore the natural beauty of your hair, but doesn?t it makes sense to use natural remedies instead of shampoos and conditioners that are loaded with chemicals?

Here?s some natural ingredients you might want to try on your hair. Not only will they make your hair look great but these will cost you a lot less than those expensive salon products.

Oil

Plain old everyday cooking oil will work just as good as any hot oil treatment and is a great way to rehydrate your hair. Take a couple of tablespoons of oil and work it through your hair paying special attention to the ends. If your hair is dry on the ends but greasy on top, skip the top and just massage it into the ends. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse out thoroughly. Your hair might feel a little greasy after this and you might want to experiment with the amount of oil until you get it just right.

Another way to use oil to give your hair more moisture and make it shiner is to use an oil and honey mixture. Try 2 tablespoons oil to 1 tablespoon honey and massage into your hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes then rinse thoroughly. Don?t shampoo it out, simply rinse it and then style your hair as you usually would.

Eggs

Eggs are good food and they are good for your hair too! In fact, eggs are one of the best natural hair conditioners around so don?t be afraid to use it on your hair. You can make an egg mixture for your hair by beating one egg and ? cup water. Massage it into your hair and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then simply rinse it out and style your hair.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise can act as a deep conditioner and is especially good on dry and over processed hair. Look for real mayonnaise (not salad dressing) in the store. You want to use it on your hair while it is dry and slather it on, massaging it into every hair follicle right down to the ends. Then wrap your head in plastic wrap (yes, the kind you use for wrapping up food) and let sit for 25 minutes then rinse and style. Yes, it can be kind of messy but will really add shine to your hair!

Maple Syrup

This is another great, but messy natural hair conditioner. Use 100% pure maple syrup and massage it into your hair. Let sit for 10 minutes then rinse thoroughly and style your hair as normal.

But what good is shiny silky hair if it is dotted with flaky dandruff? If you suffer from these annoying flakes you might want to try some of these natural remedies to treat your scalp:

Grapeseed extract is said to be great for helping eliminate dandruff and you can add it right to your shampoo. Speaking of which if you are using a commercial shampoo, you want to be sure to use one that has tar extract as this will help to treat the dandruff.

Using an apple cider rinse can help control dandruff as well. Mix ? cup water and ? cup apple cider vinegar and apply it to your hair. Leave in for 1 hour. Wash your hair, rinse and style.

The Laser Hair Removal Process

Laser Hair Removal is becoming more popular then ever for the removal of unwanted body hair. Before making the decision to go forward with laser hair removal it is important to understand the removal process and to determine if you would make an ideal candidate for laser hair removal.

Below we are going to talk about some of the most common questions asked before making a decision to get laser hair removal done.

Is it safe?

Yes, the removal process is safe. Some patients may notice pinkness or redness to the skin on the treated area. Most commonly the color will go back to normal in a few minutes up to a few hours. In a few rare cases it may take a few days for the normal skin color to appear. The skin color variation will depend greatly on the process used during the hair removal as there is more than one process available.

What is the laser hair removal process?

The laser hair removal process works by sending a beam of laser light to a group of hair follicles with enough power to disable or destroy the root, but not enough power to harm the surrounding skin. The laser beam finds the hair follicles by targeting melanin (the substance that gives skin and hair dark color). People that have dark hair and light skin are the ideal candidate for laser hair removal. However, it is important to note that the laser process will not work on those people that have red, grey or real blonde hair.

Is the hair removal process painful?

The answer to this question varies greatly by patient as everyone feels pain differently and no two people are the same. Some patients have said it feels like a pinch while other patients noted it feels like a rubber band snapping your skin. For the most part most patients have noted mild discomfort and in those cases the doctor will usually provide the patient with a mild anesthetic during the hair removal process.

How long is the hair removal process? And how many treatments will I need?

Both of these questions don?t have a single definitive answer. The length of time for removal will depend on the area being treated. How many treatments needed also have many different variables to consider making the answer different per case - skin tone, hair coloring and the coarseness of hair are all variable that help determine how many hair removal treatments will be needed.

While these are our opinions on the laser hair removal process, it is best to do your research and find out the specifics for your removal process. It?s always best to get more then one opinion and be thorough before making your decision.

Are You Happy With Your Hairdresser and Salon?

How many times in your life do you think you will go to a salon to get your hair cut or styled? Let's see, if you start when you're about 2 years old and go 6 times a year until you're about 70 years old, that turns out to be over 400 visits. Even more impressive is the amount of money (over $12,000 USD for average $30 visits) you will end up spending in your lifetime to cut, style and care for your hair. This doesn't even include special hair care products or additional services such as coloring, perms, treatments, etc.

With these statistics, it is safe to say that our hair is an important part of our lives. Finding the right hair stylist and salon is crucial to the end results of any hair style or process. Emiliano Vitale, Creative Director for E Salon in Wahroonga Australia, says, All clients look to us for direction. It is up to us to listen carefully, understand our clients needs and desires and then to translate this into a style which is specifically designed and tailored to their lifestyle and personal needs. We have invited Emiliano to visit with us and answer a few questions about salons, hairdressers and hair styles. Below are his insightful answers:

Question: Men and women spend thousands of dollars every year going to salons and caring for their hair. Yet most people report that they are less than satisfied with the results. When you read some of the salon reviews out there you will find people that like the look of their cut/color/perm but are very unhappy with the service. Some describe salons with arrogant, rude or inconsiderate hairdressers and staff. Why is E Salon different in this respect? How do you address complaints from clients ?

Emiliano: First of all, hairdressers are a reflection of their leader. You don't have rude or arrogant team members--you have rude and arrogant owners. Hairdressers globally, actually Humanity globally wakes up every morning and wants to give their best. Then they get to work and are rude only because they are not appreciated or lack self worth. It is the duty of every leader to dedicate themselves to their team and to inspire their team to cooperate in a spirit of harmony.

The only reason we are successful is because I dedicate myself to my team. I made a promise a long time ago that when one of my team members leave, they will leave a better human being and a better hairdresser. It is easy to blame our team members for making mistakes and for not being good enough. But I can assure that if we ALL, including OWNERS, realized that the person looking back at us in the mirror was responsible for the state of our life, then this industry, let alone this world, would be a greater place.

I train my people to see themselves as truly great human beings, and by doing this they will see greatness in everyone else. I promise to give them an extraordinary life and that is what my purpose is. My team members are the most pleasant and remarkable people I know.

At E Salon we treat the Human Being, not the hair. We encourage and welcome any feedback. Complaints are an opportunity to show the world what kind of human being you are. Many hairdressers take a complaint like a personal attack on them. As a leader it is our responsibility to train our people properly and nurture them and their spirit.

I am sorry; there are no rude and arrogant hairdressers---just incapable leaders. Always see the human being and give your best in evey moment in every situation. What you give is what you get---it is that simple.

Question: When you first meet with a client that wants a new hair style, what is your mode of operation?

Emiliano: The first thing I do is ask many questions, such as 'Why do you want to change your look? What don't you like about your hair?' I try to find out as much history as possible, including anything he/she has every been unhappy and happy with. Next I like to feel the hair to determine its thickness and texture. Then I look for any unusually growth patterns. Finally, and most important, I look at face shape, bone structure and the clients overall style. I focus in on suitability and I try to enhance the strengths they may have, i.e. eyes, lips cheekbones, etc. Sample photos of hair styles the clients like are also very helpful in letting me know what my clients like.

Question: As a salon owner, how important is it to keep abreast of current hair and fashion trends?

Emiliano: It is imperative that we stay abreast of what is happening in the world of hairdressing. Though it is more important to know who you are in relation to fashion. In today's world every fashion designer and hairdresser is doing his or her own thing. We must find what we identify with in terms of fashion, and with that initial inspiration, make that evolve into something that is uniquely ours.

It is so important to be a leader not a follower and to be true to yourself. In the state of truth you will be able to tap into a universal source of what is fashion anyway. That is a purely surreal experience when you come up with an original idea, and realize that others have had the same idea, very cool.

Question: A lot of hairdressers aim to please and give their clients the hair cut that they want. For example---a client brings in a photo of a hair style he/she really likes and wants to get the same look. Do you ever tell a client that ---NO that hair style or color will not work for you?

Emiliano: Absolutely! If I feel a hair style doesn't suit a client, I will not hesitate to let him/her know how I feel. That is why my clients pay me $110 a cut. Having said that, I must also contradict myself by saying, hair is about the person wearing it, not the hairdresser.

By knowing who you are and believing in yourself, you attract clients who like what you do. Hence you will very rarely have client in your chair that doesn't like what you do.

Question: What salon products do you use and how importat are they to creating workable hair styles?

Emiliano: We use L'Oreal styling products. My favorites are; Gloss Wax, Liss Control and Pure Gloss Spray in the Techni.art range, Smoothing Serum in the Texturline range by Artic (L'Oreal) and Kiwi Blow serum in the Kiwi range.

Without products, I don't believe we would really be able to produce the results we are looking for.

Question: It's one thing to come out of the salon looking fabulous. It's quite another creating the look on your own at home. Do you offer styling advice and training for your clients?

Emiliano: I offer the correct advice on which products to use and how to use them to achieve results.

Question: What can we expect for hair style trends for the Fall 2004? What will be the popular colors, lengths, styles?

Emiliano: From me, you can expect short crowns with longer lengths, creating seamless layers and transition from short to long. I am still working with asymmetry and disconnected lengths. Fringes are still very hot. I love anything Rock Chic looking. I try to make my models and clients look like Rock stars.

Colors are more a technique thing rather than actual colors, though I am working a lot with mahogany and nut browns. Highlights are bolder yet they are peeping through the hair, not on the top of the hair. I have been working with this technique for a couple of years, just varying the placement of color. At this very moment we are working with major contrast in color.

Question: Where do hair style trends start anyway?

Emiliano: I believe hair trends do not start, they evolve. They are definitely started by the hairdresser rather than the client. For example, let's look at the past season. Hair trends have a very sixties and eighties influence. Now that definitely didn't start recently, though it evolved from that period and was adapted to today.

I will try to start my own trends. At the moment I am working with my GARAGE Collection in the salon and my L'Oreal tour. The collection features extremely short crowns, varying lengths, with asymmetry and disconnection. Trends are inspired by something. They can be inspired by a movie, a song, a painting---with inspiration anything goes. You must trust your instincts. Fashion is what you LOVE. LOVE IS FASHION

Question: On a global scale, do you see a trend of how new hair style fashions evolve?

Emiliano: Personally the entertainment industry inspires me. I feel Hollywood has a major influence on setting trends. European hairdressers, especially the English are great translators of this. To take the mantle as trend setter, you definitely need to earn it.

I know many hairdressers look to fashion and the designer's new collections for inspiration. You know that anything goes, and it is usually started by some kid on a street corner who has cut their own hair, and it has caught the eye of some top stylist, designer or even director.

Fashion is what you make it and who you are in context to that fashion.

Question: What are some of the current hair concerns that your clients are experiencing and what sort of treatments do you offer?

Emiliano: In Australia, hair is very good at the moment as we are in winter. If anything, the hair is a little dehydrated. We offer the complete range of Power Dose treatments from L'Oreal. They are quick and easy treatments and make such an immediate change in the hair. My favorite here is the Shine Blonde treatment that is a toner as well as a treatment. Results are awesome!

Question: Do you have hard and fast hair care advice that applies to everyone?

Emiliano: Use very little conditioner. Apply it first to mid-lengths and the ends, then comb it through the rest of the hair. When applying mousse, apply it slowly and with a comb, little by little. Always finish with a gloss spray for shine.

Question: There is a study that says one in two women color their hair. A lot of women do it themselves. What type of color products do you use and why would you recomment that women go to E Salon for color processing?

Emiliano: We exclusively use L'Oreal Professional products. We recommend that clients come to us for color because we are trained professionals. COLOR TO HAIR ACTS LIKE PAINT TO A SKETCH, IT GIVES IT LIFE! The reason I feel that one in two women color their hair at home is our own fault. We need to spend more money on training our people and take responsibility ourselves. We tend to blame the companies for making and selling hair color products in the supermarkets. If we were doing our jobs correctly, the companies wouldn't need to sell in pharmacies and supermarkets.

Question: Finally, what are your recommendations for someone seeking a new hairdresser or salon?

Emiliano: Go in for a blow dry and take notice of all the work going on around you. Look for someone who puts love into his or her work. The are a rare breed and when you find them, cherish them. You will notice they stroke the hair, like you would pat a cat. They put their heart and soul into their work and they look at what they are doing and the way the hair falls. The best hairdressers will ask about you, not talk about themselves. Always pick the stylist in a salon with the worst haircut. The best hairdressers cut everyone elses' hair.

I tend to get a lot of clients by people asking my clients on the street who cuts their hair. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions and bring in pictures. When you find a happy and content team of hairdressers, you are sure your money is going to someone who is making a difference in the lives of their clients.

Thank you Emiliano for your thoughts and insights on hair styles and salons!

Emiliano: Final words: Be brilliant and accept yourself for the glorious human being you are, for the SIMPLE reason that you ARE. GOD BLESS ! Emiliano

Curls Are Back In for Spring 2005!

Whether you have loose curls or tight coily locks you will definately be the talk of the town this spring!

We can see the evidence of the popularity of curls at the recent Golden Globe Awards. There were many celebrities sporting curls at this years gala event.

Halle Berry wore a loose French twist lightly curled in an updo. A very simple, yet elegant style. The list went on of celebs taking their straight hair and adding a little flare with curls. Best supporting film actress Natalie Portman's shoulder-length, naturally beautiful curls with bangs made her a star that night.

Our lovely Desperate Housewives Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Nicolette Sheridan of Desperate Housewives looked lavishing in their loosely tousled waves. 2005 is said to be the Year of the Curl! No straight styles were seen at this years star studded event. Curls are back with a vengeance!

If you need some assistance maintaining the shiny glow of your curly ques, here are some tips:

Using the right hair cutting technique is extremely important when cutting curly hair. It's important to cut the hair in a way that creates the right amount of volume without the frizzies. It is also very important to go to the right salon and to a stylist who is experienced in working with curly hair.

To create a sassy hairstyle, simply wash hair and towel dry or use a diffuser. Once the hair is almost dry use a moisturizing product that is not too heavy and run fingers through hair to add more volume. Let hair air dry and style as desired with your fingers. If you use a brush or comb you may add too much frizz.

  • Give your curls a hot oil treatment every 2-3 weeks to add moisture to the hair. It is especially necessary to do this during the colder months where hair can become dry and brittle. Counter it with a hot oil treatment. The heat opens up the inner cortex and penetrates the hair shaft. You can find this product at your local drug store. A good hot oil treatment is Alberto VO5 Hot oil treatment. Each tube is 14 ml. It claims that if used regularly, it will lead to 55% stronger hair.
  • Get regular trims every 8 weeks to rid your curls of unsightly, stringy ends. Ensure that you visit a stylist that knows how to cut and style curly hair.
  • Add a touch of essential oils like avocado, coconut, jojoba or olive oil to your hair. This can be a great conditioning regimen to do prior to shampooing the hair. Place any of the above mentioned oils into the hair and place the hair in a bun for about 20 minutes. You can even wrap your hair under a plastic cap covered by a heat cap for added conditioning. You?ll find that your curls will be more revived and manageable.

Love your curls and they'll love you back!

    Helpful Braiding Tips

Beautifying yourself by applying various braided styles has been an aged-old trend. All it needs is a creative mind that can provide a huge number of hairstyles through different stylish braids.

Braids give your hair a fabulous look. They encourage hair growth and are a good way to hide thinning. You get a wide variety of braiding styles varying from cornrows, locks, closed cropped braids to individual braid plaits and coils. Celebrities are equally attracted towards the braided hairstyle, which further raises its demand in the market.

The growing popularity of braids owes to their low-maintenance factor as well. You need to visit a professional for its adequate maintenance as it does require maintenance after all. Neglecting it may affect your hair adversely causing it great damage. Regular conditioning and moisturizing your scalp is the least requirement.

You should wear your braids anywhere between 2 weeks to 3 months but not after it. Women with thinning hair should wear the braids with caution. It may cause undue stress on the edges so using a moisturizer and conditioner would save the hair from falling. Pamper your hair with braiding and give yourself a new look through a new hairstyle.

You should keep in mind the basics of braiding, which are as follows -

    * Go for a deep-conditioning before braiding. Have your hair properly trimmed, if you wish to have a stylish braid.

    * Prefer to apply lightweight leave-in conditioners.

    * Immediate braiding of a chemically straightened hair may harm it. Go for braiding only when a professional thinks it is safe for your hair to bear the tension of braids.

    * If you wish to use human-hair extensions, choose the ones that are lightweight.

    * When you wish to match the extensions to your own hair color, opt for the one that matches the middle or end of your hair. If you match the extension with the root color of the hair, the extension would look darker than the actual hair as root hair always have a darker look.

    * If you go to sleep with wet hair, you are sure to invite unruly tangled hair.

    * As the right braid can form only with perfect hair, be careful while maintaining them

Electrolysis A Choice for Permanent Hair Removal

First off, this isn?t that thing you studied in physics class relating to anodes and cathodes and some guy called Faraday. Here, electrolysis means one of the most popular and effective ways to permanently remove unwanted hair. Electrolysis has an outstanding track record of success and over a century of tested safety and effectiveness.

The reason that it?s so popular is that it?s fundamental. A hair-thin metal probe is inserted into the hair follicle and an electrical charge is delivered. This damages the follicle and inhibits its ability to produce hairs.

Supervised by a professional (the process is very tricky and there?s some pretty serious training involved) electrolysis is almost always successful, and the vast majority of consumers experience permanent results.

However (there?s always a however, right?), there are certain disadvantages, and a good deal of myth flying around when it comes to this kind of hair removal. First up, it?s not painless. Some customers manage without pain killers, others definitely do not. It?s no picnic for your bank balance, either. A simple session can cost $150, and for the more advanced processes, there could be a bill of between $2000 and $20000.

Regulations for electrologists vary by state, so it can be tricky tracking down the right one for the job. Be sure you?re confident, because poor application can result in partial-to-full re-growth, a spread of infection, even lasting skin damage. Done properly, electrolysis shouldn?t even puncture the skin.

Beyond this, the process can be mind-numbingly tedious, and in some cases, completely ineffective. A large area of hair is tough to treat, and since there are so many variables relating to your personal follicle characteristics and the amount of epilation (hair removal) you seek, accurate re-growth rates are almost impossible to determine. It?s true that the vast majority of consumers are happy with their results, but published studies show that around 8% are not satisfied. There?s nothing official to guarantee 0% re-growth, so don?t trust anyone who claims it.

It?s probably worth mentioning that home electrolysis kits, the ones that look like mechanical pencils with a 9-volt battery, are almost never recommended. Put simply, the chances of success are much less, while all the risks are increased. So, while you?re searching for a registered, state-licensed hair removal professional, how about a bit of science?

There are actually three types of energy used in electrolysis. Galvanic alters the salt and water in the skin around the probe to produce sodium hydroxide, or lye, which, if there?s enough, can damage the cells that cause re-growth. Thermolysis works by vibrating the water in your skin, and heating it until the cell is damaged. Blend is a kind of hybrid of these, which heats the lye to make it more caustic. This is probably the most effective method, and therefore the most deserving of the right professional application.

The bottom line? Electrolysis works, but you have to use your head. St. Louis ophthalmologist Charles Michel was practicing it back in 1875, so it shouldn?t be too scary. Take your time, do your research, and check out the big guys:

IGPE (International Guild of Professional Electrologists)

SCME (Society of Clinical and Medical Electrologists)

ESNE (Electrolysis Society of the Northeast)

    Hair Care Home Remedies

Save money and give yourself a break from the chemicals found in most hair care products by using the following natural home remedies.

Tame your frizzy hair by rubbing coconut oil into your hands and applying sparingly onto your hair. You don't want to overdo it - too much will make your hair look greasy. Shampooing your hair less frequently also helps with the frizzies. Excess shampooing strips natural oils from the hair.

Rinse your hair with one tablespoon baking soda mixed with one cup of water to get rid of shampoo build-up and styling residues.

Rinsing your hair with one juiced lemon and one cup of water is said to bring life and shine back to dull hair.

1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with two cups of water will give your hair shine and bounce.

Add essential oil of ylang ylang to your shampoo, conditioner and styling agents as a hair rejuvenator.

Ylang ylang and rosemary essential oils are also believed to stimulate hair growth.

Drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables and getting plenty of rest is probably the best way to achieving healthy hair.

What goes into your body is reflective on the outside including your hair.

Laser Hair Removal Is It For You?

Unwanted hairs or hairs in unwanted places can be a real source of heartache for anyone. Hair growth on the body generally differs from person to person for several reasons, but what seems to bring everybody together, as far as unwanted hair growth is concern, is that everybody wants the most effective way to get rid of these hairs with minimum pain and price.

There are several hair removal processes and each comes with its successes and side effects. Electrolysis and shaving seems to be the oldest hair removal procedures. Unlike shaving, electrolysis seems to be more painful, tends to damage the skin, especially delicate skin and the rate at which the hairs grow back is another concern. Shaving is a far more acceptable hair removal procedure. In most cases, men content themselves with good shavers and it tends to be effective.

The epilator is a more technologically advanced hair removal product and it is especially good for delicate skins. That explains why it is preferred by ladies. They always come in a handy, compact size, easy to carry and removes hair from the root with much less pain compared to other hair removal methods.

When a permanent hair removal product is what you want, then the laser hair removal process is probably what you need. How does it work? The laser beam to be used for the hair removal is directed at the area to be treated. The dark pigments of the hair follicle absorb the light energy from the laser. As the follicular pigment absorbs more and more of this light energy, the follicle dies. So, it cannot grow hairs again.

However, your skin texture and hair color also determine your success with laser hair removal procedures. It is generally believed that the process works best for people whose hair color is darker than their skin color and work less in people with very light or fair skin. However, laser hair treatment is available for a wide array of needs, from a small area of upper lip hair removal for women to full body back hair removal for men.

There are different types of laser hair removal, so no general limitation can be placed on your eligibility or otherwise for the procedure. If you are interested in the procedure, you can always find out from your local laser clinic, what their services are and which process is applicable to you.

Besides, your skin and hair color, not having undergone a tanning session or having applied any other mode of hair removal are factors that could determine the success of hair removal treatment with a laser.

Most people who have undergone laser hair removal treatment generally have had very little to complain about, but you never can tell. You should expect some blistering or reddening of the skin after a laser removal treatment, though it is always short lived and not much cause for concern. You should also expect some dark spots and bumps formed by the death and scarring of the follicles by the light energy of the laser beam. This too will fade out in no time.

One last thing you should have in mind when contemplating laser hair removal treatment is that it is not a completely permanent treatment. Though, it keeps the hair at bay for a longer period of time compared to other hair removal processes, after some time, you should expect a re-growth of some hair, though this might be fairer or thinner and less worrisome.

Price is a factor to think about when contemplating laser hair removal treatment, but if you are sure it is what you want, the price should not be a problem, as long as you can afford it. Depending on the treatment type and the specialist involved, the prices generally range from a few hundred bucks to a couple of grand. Again, if it's what you want, the price is no problem.

Laser Body Hair Removal: An Overview of the Treatment Process

Laser Body Hair Removal is growing rapidy in popularity as men and women become more conscious of their body image. It is estimated that about one million Americans used laser treatment to remove body hair in 2003; this number has doubled since then. Interestingly, women outnumber men in seeking this treatment.

Laser treatment can be used to get rid of the unwanted hair on the face, lips, chin, legs, arms, back, underarm, shoulders, chest, neck, and bikini line. It is carried out by a qualified cosmetic surgeon in a hospital or medical facility on an out patient basis, and doesn't normally require an anesthetic.

The process begins by shaving the treatment area. If the patient has dark skin, the cosmetic professional applies a bleaching cream to facilitate better body hair removal results. Once the treatment area has been shaved and cleaned, a local anesthetic may be administered to mitigate any discomfort to the patient during the procedure. But this may not always be necessary.

The surgeon uses a special instrument to deliver pulses of light into the hair follicle. The heat emitted from the laser damages the follicles and arrests hair development. The treatment may take an hour or so depending upon the area to be treated. The treatment time and intensity of the laser beam depends on the density and color of the body hair and the body surface from which the hair is to be removed.

The skin may become red immediately after the treatment. Sometimes, skin discoloration or burning may occur. After the laser body hair removal treatment, patients should avoid exposing the treated area to the sun. If it is unavoidable, a sun cream should be applied.

The areas of unwanted hair on women differ from that of men. Women are most keen to remove hair from lips, chin, bikini line area and the legs. Men use laser to remove hair from eyebrows, ears, neck, chest and back. The technique is especially preferred to remove hair from the back. Most men find back hair embarrassing, but have very few viable options to remove them. They have to depend on someone else if they have to shave or apply depilatory creams. The laser hair treatment is therefore the most convenient. It is permanent also.

In the case of leg hair, use of depilatory creams, shaving or waxing can be undertaken by both en and women but they can be tedious. Moreover, it may become necessary for many people to shave their legs daily to keep them smooth. Waxing legs isn't as painful as waxing other areas such as bikini line, but it is very expensive.

    Tanning Salon Equipment

Tanning salons continue to be extremely popular in all areas of the country, during all seasons. Both men and women alike frequently purchase tanning services at their favorite tanning salon.

Tanning services, often sold in packages, allow clients to visit for a specific number of tanning sessions. This is a better value than purchasing individual tanning sessions. Prices of tanning packages and individual sessions may vary, according to the specific tanning salon equipment that a client chooses to tan in.

Typically, tanning salon equipment includes stand-up tanning booths and tanning beds. Stand-up tanning booths allow the client to tan while standing up. Tanning bulbs mounted behind Plexiglas safely surround their body. Most booths feature a cooling fan and also speakers that allow a client to listen to music during their 5-20 minute tanning session. Booths may have 48, 54 or 60 UV lamps. Booths are typically made of steel, plastic, or wood and most accommodate a large capacity to comfortably fit various body types.

Tanning beds in which the customer lies down in are also available in different size frames to accommodate various body types. A tanning bed is typically made of a steel frame and features 100-160 watt tanning bulbs. The client lies down on a bed of Plexiglas, which features a pull down cover that also encases the tanning bulbs behind Plexiglass. Lay-down beds typically feature 24-46 bulbs that may vary in watts. The number of bulbs and the watts they carry, in combination with individual skin type, will determine how long a tanning session should last.

All tanning salon equipment operates on a timing mechanism that allows the equipment to operate for only a predetermined tanning session. Safety cut-off mechanisms are also built into tanning salon equipment to allow a client to quickly power down the equipment in case of emergency or malfunction.

Used Tanning Salon Equipment is a popular choice for new salon owners who are on a strict budget. Many veteran salon owners who choose to upgrade their tanning salon equipment offer used tanning salon equipment for a great price. All tanning beds feature bulbs that are easily replaced. Used tanning booths and beds that have sturdy frames and properly working electrical systems are a great option for the tanning salon owner looking to save money.

Wigs Find One that Beautifully Frames Your Unique Face Shape

Before you start shopping for a wig, know what type of wig you should be shopping for. What type of wig should you be shopping for? Well, that depends entirely upon you ? to be more exact, it depends entirely upon your face shape.

There are many decisions that you need to make when choosing a wig ? do you want a synthetic or human hair wig? What color? An outrageous style or a subtle style? Et cetera.

Of course, the most important thing to consider is how a particular hair style will look with your face. You may find a wig that you absolutely love, only to find that it looks ten times better on your friend than it does on you. This is because you and your friend have different face shapes, and different faces can be highlighted and displayed better by different wigs ? think of your wig as a picture frame, and your face as the picture. The wrong frame can practically ruin a picture, while the right frame can compliment it and make it even better.

Here are some ideas as to what to look for, depending on your face shape (remember, these are not hard and fast rules, but they are certainly a place to start).

?Pear-shaped face ? If you have a face with a narrow forehead and a wide jawline, you need a wig that will draw attention to the upper part of your face. Find a wig with full and layered locks that add height to the crown of your head. Feel free to go ?shaggy!? A short wig that hits above the jawline is a great pick.

?Triangular-shaped faced ? This face shape is similar to the pear-shaped face, only it is widest at the jawline, slightly narrower at the cheeks, and narrowest at the temples. Again, you want to find a wig that will create fullness at the upper part of your face. As the wig approaches your jawline, it should taper off.

?Heart-shaped face ? This is practically the opposite of a triangular or pear-shaped face. A person with a heart shaped face as a wide forehead and a small chin. So, as you might have guessed, to compliment this face type, you want to find a wig that is the opposite of the abovementioned wigs ? you want one that makes the forehead look narrower and the chin look wider. And you can do this by having fullness near the chin. Try out wavy curls or a chin-length bob (without so much layering). Also, consider trying on a wig with bangs ? you might just love how it looks on you.

?Round face ? If you have a round face, feel free to go long! In fact, you do not want to have a wig that ends right at the chinline ? it will only make your face seem rounder. Also avoid middle parts and straight bangs. Keep your hair straight ? full on top, straight on the sides, and long.

?Square face ? You can soften-up a square face with wispy bangs and flowing layers. Have your hair cut in layers. Try on a curly or wavy haired wig. Again, feel free to long ? you want to create the illusion of length.

?Rectangular face ? As opposed to a person with a square face, a person with a rectangular face should avoid any wigs that are long ? they will only lengthen her face. Rather, she should look for short or medium-length hair. Try on a layered wig, one with a side part and maybe even some bangs. Do not add height at the crown.

?Oval face ? If you have an oval face, you might find that any one of the above mentioned styles of wigs look great. An oval face looks great with long hair and with short hair, wavy and straight, bangs and no bangs. Pretty much, the whole world of wigs is open to you if you have an oval-shaped face!

Blonde Hair Style and Color Ideas To Lighten Your Look This Summer

Are you looking for a blonde hair color or maybe a fresh new hair style idea for the summer?

No matter how dark or light your natural base color or what your skin tone is, there is a blonde shade to suit you. And blonde just happens to be the most popular hair color for the mild weather seasons.

So here are some tips for summery hair color ideas to bring out your inner goddess!

For Brunettes Going Blonde: If you have wavy, shoulder-length hair in a brunette tone, don't go for all-over color. Instead, add texture to your style plus some caramel highlights scattered throughout the crown and part areas. The textured waves combined with the highlights will reflect the sunlight and create a dazzling effect.

Long Hair Color Tip: If you have long hair that's damaged or dull, invest in a good color safe and natural hair conditioner like Revitalizing Conditioner from n-fruizon? BODY THERAPY before coloring and make it a regular part of your hair regime. After all, your hair has been subjected to years of styling and brushing so the mid lengths and ends are more damaged than the roots.

Consider opting for the soft, wavy hairstyles that are so hot this year matched with a vanilla blonde color. The new S Wave Thermal Set? is soft and gentle, even on long, colored hair. The S Wave Thermal Set? waving technique and solution from n-fruizon Body Therapy is a gentle formula designed to create soft, manageable curls and waves for all types of hair.

Find The Right Blonde For You: Before choosing a new hair color, consider your skin tone and eye color. You may find that warmer colors suit you better and lift your overall appearance. For example, if your hair has already been bleached or colored a very light blonde hue and your darker roots are starting to show, change your color to a warmer tone of blonde with deep honey highlights. And forget the bleach... your hair needs time to recuperate. A new hair color can create an extraordinary impact when combined with a fresh new hair style.

Layer Your Colors For an Exciting Look: If you naturally have a light brown base color, try going for highlights with a multi-coloring technique. Applying the highlights in several tones on the part area and keeping the layers underneath darker will give you a striking and unique look. This type of coloring looks especially good on straight, medium-length hair with side bangs.

I hope these blonde hair color ideas have inspired you to do something refreshingly different with your hair this season. It will not only update your appearance but will also help lift your mood and get you into a summery state of mind.

Winning Ways Of Waxing For Hair Removal

Waxing is a popular hair removal process for both males and females these days. It's a method that can be done at your convenience in your home or by a professional at select salons and spas.

Depending on your particular skin, hair type and rate of hair growth, waxing has been known to provide smooth results as long as 3-8 weeks and is suggested as the longest lasting temporary hair removal method.

While there are people who say this method of hair removal is not as painful as it sounds, basically, the waxing solution wraps around the hair and then is pulled. Pulling the hair and its roots out.

If you're concerned about pain, you can purchase a pain reducing gel or anesthetic numbing spray from your pharmacist, which needs to be applied thirty to sixty minutes before waxing.

And if you have problems with acne, avoid any type of waxing until your skin is clear.

If you're not totally committed to following through the waxing process, no matter how much it hurts, you may just want to go to a salon and let a professional do it for you. But be aware that waxing at a salon can get pretty pricey, especially if you want to remove hair from large areas. Just to give you an idea, usually it's about twenty five dollars for bikini line hair removal.

Today, there are several kinds of waxing hair removal products available - With warm waxing being the most often used.

Cold wax comes in a paste or gel that isn't heated before applying it to the skin. Getting the wax from the container and controlling the thickness to the skin is what makes most cold waxes so messy. It's not quite as effective and less preferred than a warm wax. But if you have sensitive skin, a cold wax causes less skin irritations.

If you choose to use a waxing hair removal product at home, read all instructions that come with your kit carefully.

Always test a small area of skin for sensitivity or an allergic reaction.

Your hair needs to be a little bit long, about an 1/8, for the best results with this type of hair removal product. So if your hairs are longer, trim them down. If shorter, allow them to grow in a bit.

With this method of hair removal, you don't want to bathe beforehand. Hair absorbs moisture which makes it soft and harder for the wax to adhere to. Dry hair is tough and/so easier to pull off. Lightly powder your skin to absorb moisture and natural oils. This will keep hairs easier to pull, which will limit inflammation.

Some people exfoliate the area before waxing to remove dead skin cells that can contribute to ingrown hairs.

Do not overheat the wax. You don't want to burn your skin. Lower the temperature of the wax for facial hair and only use it on one small area at a time.

The consistency of the wax should be soft, not runny.

Hair removal by waxing can break the hair, which is a main cause of ingrown hairs.

To avoid ingrown hairs, apply a thin layer of wax in the direction the hair grows. If you're using a strip over the wax, rub it in the same direction. Leave about one third of the strip free so you can get a good grip for pulling it off fast.

Pull your skin taut and then pull the strip back, not up or out, in one smooth movement. Don't be timid - Slight pulls will only leave patchy areas as well as cause more pain.

After waxing, remove any excess wax with a warm moist towel, being careful not to touch the skin with your hands, which might cause an infection.

When skin is freshly waxed, limit creating ingrown hairs and other skin irritations by not wearing tight clothing around the area.

Another way to limit severe skin problems after using a waxing hair removal product is to exfoliate the skin one to two days later. This will help prevent dead skin cells from building up.

Be careful not to expose the newly waxed area to the sun for at least forty eight hours or the skin may darken, but not in a good way. And always use a good sun blocker thereafter.

Be aware - Using a waxing hair removal product usually leaves a redness, so if you're doing it for a special occasion, do it a couple of days beforehand.

Now, if you decide waxing may not be for you, there are alternatives. Do some research and you'll find other hair removal products that are not quite as, uh, intense.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment FAQ: Simple And To The Point

What is laser hair removal and how does it work?

It is a relatively new treatment that makes use of lasers to remove hair from the body.

The practitioner uses a hand held device that emits a laser that penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the hair. Once absorbed heat energy is produces in the hair which travels down the shaft and destroys the root.

The laser uses a beam of light which penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigment colour in the hair where it is converted to heat.

    Is it safe?

Yes. The laser settings are customised depending on your skin and hair colour. There is very little risk of any damage to your skin.

Will the laser hair removal treatment get rid of my hair permanently?

Tiny hair re-growth is possible but comparing laser hair removal with other methods of hair removal it produces the best long term results. Hair grown after the treatment is usually very thin and weak and can be easily treated.

    Does it hurt?

Laser treatment is not completely painless, usually a slight sting can be felt but it is no where near the pain experienced when waxing or epilating. Most patients can bare it without the need of anaesthesia. However patients with very low pain thresholds can ask for a cream based anaesthesia to be applied to the skin.

    Can everyone get it done?

No. I am afraid it is not possible to treat very light shades of hair such as white, grey, light blonde etc.

In addition to hair colour people with dark skin can only be treated with very specialised lasers available at very few laser hair removal clinics. Tanned people with light hair cannot be treated.

The treatment works best on light skinned people with dark hair.

How long does the treatment take?

That depends solely on the size of the area being operated on. It can take anywhere between 10 minutes, for parts such as the chin to about 35 minutes for the back.

    What areas can be treated?

Apart from parts very close to the eye all other areas such as legs, back, arms, bikini line, chest etc can be treated.

    How much does it cost?

Laser hair removal treatment is not cheap. That depends on the size of the area being treated. Usually it costs about 200 dollars per session of small areas such as the upper lip/chin rising to 500 for large areas such as the back and the legs.

    How many sessions are required?

Many factors come into play and it varies from patient to patient but usually anywhere between three and six are needed for the best results.

What should I expect after the laser hair removal treatment?

The laser treatment area goes pink after the treatment, like sunburn, and stays that way for about one to two days. Minor discomfort will be felt during this period. The laser treated hair falls off by itself within a few days.

Getting Hair Extensions Step 2 of 6

Step 2 - Find out about all the different hair extensions methods.

Hair extensions have been around since ancient times. In one way or another, people have been adding to or extending their hair for hundreds of years. Many of the methods used to attach the hair have been transformed and improved over the years. Many of today's methods are much faster and can cause less damage to the natural hair.

For any hair extension method, you will need either human or synthetic hair extensions. These come in various forms and the quality can vary greatly. For additional info on the hair used, refer to our online detailed coverage of Step 2 to getting hair extensions at http://www.hairresources.net

The basic ways to attach hair extensions are: bonding, fusion, weaving, braiding + sewn in, locs, links, tubes, braiding and tape.

Bonding: This is the quickest method. A bonding glue is applied onto the weft of the extension hair and then applied at the root of your hair. This is a temporary method.

Fusion: This is a process done strand by strand in small sections. Various types of adhesive based material is used to add the extension hair directly to your own hair. Many celebrities have this type of hair extension since it looks like the extension hair grew out of your own head.

Weaving: Corn rows or tracks are created around the head and close to the scalp. Extension hair, or wefts of hair are sewn on the tracks. Your own hair lays over the tracks for a natural look.

Braiding: Similar to weaving above, tiny braids are created close to the scalp and the extension hair is sewn directly into the braids.

Locs, Links: Tiny locs or links are used to hold the extension hair to strands of your natural hair

Tubes: Uses tiny little plastic tubes that 'shrink-wrapped' the extension hair into your own natural hair.

Tape: Various kinds of special tape can be used to attach hair extensions

This concludes Step 2 to getting hair extensions. Understand the methods used to attach hair extensions and the different types of hair that is used.

Do You Want Curls With That?: The History of Hair Perm Treatment and How It Works

Hair treatments have been used all through out history by women and men alike to enhance their appearances. Once of the most famous hair treatment that is still used up until today is the perm treatment.

When a perm treatment is done on a person?s hair, curls are created in the hair shaft. These curls appear as a result of the alteration of the hair?s chemical structure.

Due to the use of chemical treatments, the curls made from a perm treatment last longer than those curls made by heating or styling by curlers. The curls made from this treatment cannot be destroyed unless by another chemical treatment is done on the person?s hair.

The perm treatment has gone far back in history. Women of Ancient Egypt used to put on a concoction of soil and water to their hair. Afterwards, they set their hair using primitive curlers made out of wood and bask under the sun to supply heat to their hair.

After the hair dryer was invented, setting lotions were then used to replace the ?mud treatment? that the Egyptian women introduced. However, these setting lotions did not provide lasting results to women who desired to replace their straight hair with curls.

Permanent waves then became available in the market in 1920. This type of perm treatment used electrical devices (instead of the sun) to generate heat into the hair.

But since most heating devices do not have thermostats back then, the amount of heat that flows into the hair was not regulated. Thus, these harsh early perm treatments led the hair to dry. The end results were frizzy curls that were unmanageable and difficult to maintain.

The cold wave was then introduced in the 1940s. The cold wave is basically what the modern perm treatment is today. Since the heat used in a cold wave can easily be regulated, the hair can now be curled closer to the scalp using this treatment.

In a perm treatment, hair is washed and wound to curlers or curling rods to set. The perm lotion is then applied to the hair as it is still set in curlers.

The perm lotion is responsible for breaking the bonds of the hair that keeps it in shape. Since hair and the perm lotion have different pH levels, it makes the hair react to the perm lotion once it is applied.

The perm lotion opens up the cuticles of the hair as it enters its cortex. It is in the cortex where the disulphide bonds that are capable for shaping the hair can be found. Once the perm lotion reacts with these bonds, the bonds loosen and take the shape of hair while it is set in curlers.

After applying the perm lotion, the hair is then placed under regulated heat to help soften and loosen the bonds that keep it in shape.

After rinsing the perm lotion from the hair, a neutralizing lotion is applied. In this part of the treatment, the neutralizing lotion enables the links that were broken by the perm lotion to reform. The hair then hardens and retains its curly shape.

This stage of the perm treatment however can cause irritation and damage to the hair shaft if not executed properly. If the neutralizing is not done properly, the bonds of the hair may not harden enough for it to stand breakage and damaging. Also, the neutralizing lotion can irritate the scalp if not rinsed thoroughly.

After the perm treatment, it is advisable for the client to not shampoo his or her hair for a few days. The shampoo may interrupt the ?curing? process of the treatment. The curls may not appear as expected if the client eagerly shampoos his or her hair after the treatment.

On the other hand, it is advisable to often condition newly permed hair to prevent it from being damaged.

A perm treatment is a good way to give volume and body to a person?s hair. However, one must take into consideration that different people have different hair types. Thus, a perm treatment, or any hair treatment for that matter, can yield different results for different people.

If one is interested in getting any treatment for their hair, they should take in mind to find a hairstylist that they trust. They must also fully understand the type of treatment and what it does to their hair.

Besides, anyone would not want to do anything damaging to their hair. As the saying goes, ?The hair is your crowning glory?.

Things To Keep In Mind While Wearing Makeup

Even though the adage goes like Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, it may not have the same importance nowadays. With different job patterns people use lot of makeup. Even though being jobless or having a job doesn?t stop you from putting on the makeup. You would like to look beautiful and with the increasing number of brands rushing in the market it can be very easy to be swayed by all the beauty products. Everyone has their reasons for putting on the makeup.

The use of makeup may be to hide the defects which appear on the face. It is a moral booster for many and it boosts your confidence. Wearing makeup is also an art which cannot be done by anyone or everyone. The important thing about wearing makeup is to know what suits you the best. Know your skin type then according to your skin color and eye color decide upon the makeup you planning to use.

It's the face that requires the makeup but it's been divided into three parts like the eye makeup, lips and the overall face. Use makeup which is good for your skin as well as which complements your face. If professional help is required for special engagement then you shouldn't wait anymore.

For the facial makeup the main contenders are the concealer, foundation and powder which properly used can add that extra glow to your face. Things which one can keep in my mind while applying facial makeup is that if you have dry skin use liquid or cream facial makeup, for normal or dry skin - liquid or cream makeup, for normal to oily - oil free liquid or powder, for oily skin oil free with matte finish.

There is different makeup done for your eyes which include eyeliner, eye shadow and mascara. With the different eye color you can use the different shades and make it very beautiful. Hair Extensions the Truth About Instant Long Hair

Hair extensions - a few hours in the salon and you have long hair that looks like a dream. But is there a downside? Professionally made hair extensions can completely transform your appearance without affecting the health of your hair, but if they are done wrongly extensions can seriously damage your hair. You should know what to expect before going to the salon.

Would hair extensions cost a fortune?

Yes, extensions done by a professional hair extension artist and made from high quality hair would cost you several hundred dollars. The price really depends on the quality of the hair used - Asian hair is cheaper, while European hair costs 2-3 times more. If you want good looking hair - especially blond hair - you will have to pay for European material.

Online you might find hair extension ?starter kits? with complete instructions, which aren?t difficult to apply. So if you feel adventurous, you can buy a do-it-yourself kit and save significantly. If done correctly, this type of hair extension looks as good as any salon made one. If you decide to follow this route, though, make sure that you order high quality hair.

What types of hair extension are available?

The two major types of hair extension are individual strands and wefts.

Individual strands, as the name implies, are attached one piece at a time to your own hair, usually using glue, or with waxes and polymers. The problem here is that most of the attachment methods require coating your natural hair with rather unfriendly chemicals. Attaching these extensions isn?t a problem, but removing this type of extension can seriously damage your hair.

Wefts, on the other hand, are braided into your hair, so no chemicals are needed. A weft looks like a curtain of hair held together at the top and hanging freely toward the bottom. It is braided into your hair around the midline of your head - about ear level. It is safer for your hair but, on the downside, as you own hair grows wefts have to be rebraided - about once every two months.

What materials are used for hair extensions?

First, hair for extensions can be either synthetic or real human hair. Synthetic extensions are cheaper, of course, but you get what you pay for - they look like artificial strands attached to your hair. They?re not very pleasant to the touch, either.

Human hair used for extensions gives better results. Human extension hair differs by origin. The most common are hair from India and Asian countries. They are great, if you are an Asian woman yourself. Unfortunately this type of hair has a noticeably different texture from a Caucasian?s natural hair, so on Caucasian women they just don?t look right.

European hair is of better quality, usually originating from Spain and Italy, is of better quality but costs more. The only problem is that its natural color is usually coal black. To make a blond extensions out of them, Italian or Spanish hair needs to be heavily bleached.

There are also so-called ?raw? or ?virgin? hair. This is European hair coming from Central and Eastern European countries, like Russia and Poland. The advantage of this hair that it is naturally light and of a very high quality. However, this type of hair is difficult to find and costs an arm and a leg.

Tanya Turner is wig and hair extensions expert and a founder of http://www.WigsGuide.info, where you can find unbiased information about all types of wigs and hair extensions with pictures of most popular wig styles

Most Realistic Wigs Synthetic or Human Hair

A lot of people nowadays are getting more intrigued by the allure of human hair wigs as compared with synthetic hair. And even if human hair wigs are a lot more costly than the synthetic variety, people still go for these due to their uncomprimising ability to look - and feel - realistic.

    1. Feel The Difference

So what exactly is the difference between human hair wigs from synthetic hair? For starters, synthetic hair is just made out of extremely fine plastic filaments where its structure is a whole lot different from actual human hair. Synthetics are also a whole lot easier to handle since synthetic hair has the ability to hold a basic curl even after some washings. It really does depend on the kind of hair style that you want to achieve. A good synthetic wig can last you about a full year but through proper care and good maintenance can still live on for a longer time than that.

When it comes to human hair wigs, however, there is the general rule that the hair is a whole lot heavier. Contrary to most people's assumptions, human hair wigs can last a whole lot longer than synthetic hair wigs! You just have to ensure the quality of the human hair wig you purchase. A lot of people prefer high quality human hair wigs that are made out of European hair.

    2. Added Strength And Texture

These world-class European human hair wigs are considered as the best kind of human hair wigs in the world because of their strength and full texture. This type of human hair wig is the rarest kind of human hair wig and therefore the most expensive. They can cost thousands of dollars.

Still, even if most human hair wigs are considered as extremely pricey, you still have to be cautious of the kind of human hair wig that you purchase. It is a very bad idea to purchase human hair wigs marked at bargain prices because their quality will be far less.

    3. Get The Very Best

A lot of people can be duped into thinking that all kinds of human hair are created equal. In reality some human hair tends to be coarse in nature and is highly resistant that makes it incredibly difficult to style.

Summer Hair Care Tips for Dry Hair

Summer is approaching, time to wear short hairstyles and pay special attention to your hair care, because the sun and humidity is the worst enemy of your hair's cuticles, causing damage that results in split ends, dry hair, frizzy hair or brittle hair. In healthy conditions, hair?s moisture content is approximately 10%, but sunlight has the same damaging effect as a hot blow dryer on your hair.

When hair's moisture content drops below normal moisture, it is necessary to increase your hair's ability to attract and retain natural moisture, preventing dry hair. Frizzy hair is a pain that can be prevented by shampooing your hair thoroughly and then applying a rinse out conditioner to eliminate static electricity, adding moisture and shine.

Keeping a hair care routine and short hairstyles during summer does help to prevent novice effects of sunlight. Additionally, wearing a hat at the beach, and applying after sun exposure such as a Sun Hair Repair Mask, keeps or replenishes the moisture of your hair. However, take in mind the aluminizing and voluminzing products make your hair take body and shine but do not hydrate it.

It is not mandatory to spend your summer on the beach, so if you stay home take a weekend to apply a good deep conditioner on your hair. Health care at home allows you to take an intensive treatment with jojoba oil, or any other product especially designed for dry hair or frizzy hair. Apply the warm treatment on the ends and frizziest parts of your hair, wrapping it in plastic, then go to bed and sleep the night through.

At the beach, make sure to wear your hat and if you and use a deep cleansing shampoo as soon as you get back home. This hair care is to prevent possible damage to your hair after a day exposing it to the sun and salty seawater. However, take in mind that severely dry hair may be burnt and cannot be fixed.

In this case, it is much better to trim the damaged sections of your hair off, particularly if you have frizzy hair, and opt to wear any of the modern short hairstyles to mask the problem while your hair grows again. One thing you should discontinue during summer is the use of blow dryers because summer heat is hot enough to damage it by itself and contains potential frizzies.

There are many hair care products to control frizzy hair, but be careful. Most of them contain silicone that coats your hair after several applications causing major harm instead of benefits to your hair. On the other hand, some hair conditioners only provide moisture to your hair while they are coating your hair as well. These products do not harm your hair, but do not help either.

Short hairstyles for summer time are the key to enjoying the sun and yet remember to continue religiously your hair care routine without missing your sunny days.

Natalie Aranda writes about beauty, skin care, hair care and makeup tips. Hair Removal The Facts About Getting Rid Of Unwanted Hair

There are many reasons for unwanted hair growth that may include hirsutism, hypertrichosis or you just simply have hair growing in places you wished you didn?t. Many women pluck their eyebrows, shave their underarms and legs, and will also trim or remove pubic hair just to accommodate today?s fashions. For the most part they will treat hair removal as part of their cosmetic routine.

Most men shave their facial hair unless they are purposely growing a moustache, goatee or beard. There are also men who shave their body hair for various cosmetic reasons. Athletes such as body builders and swimmers will also use hair removal methods in order to enhance their appearance, or performance. There are also medical reasons for getting rid of unwanted hair as well as the reason of personal preference.

If you are considering removing unwanted hair then the good news is that there are a number of hair removal options that are available today. Essentially there are basically two categories of hair removal procedures: Permanent Hair Removal Techniques, and Temporary Hair Removal Techniques.

    Permanent Hair Removal

Permanent hair removal procedures seek to eliminate unwanted hair in such a way that it never returns. At times they may be successful but there are instances where this technique turns out to be semi-permanent and they may have to be repeated again over time. Individuals who seek out permanent hair removal methods will mostly likely receive treatment from a hair removal specialist or a licensed Esthetician. Examples of common permanent hair removal techniques include:

    • Hair Removal Laser Treatments ? this procedure is a relatively painless method for hair removal. This treatment has been approved by the FDA and should only be performed by a trained and licensed professional. The hair follicles are destroyed using a small laser beam and results work best on individuals with light colored skin and dark hair. It is not recommended on deeply tanned people. The overall costs to remove facial hair with lasers can run you around $1,000, while removal of hair from pubic areas or legs can costs anywhere from $2,000 - $3,000.

    • Photo Pulsed/Epilation Laser ? this method is similar to laser treatment and is also an FDA approved procedure. It uses a pulsed light beam to eliminate the hair follicles. There are no restrictions in regards to tanning, skin or hair color. It is commonly used to remove hair from the bikini areas as well as underarms. General costs can range between $500 and $2,000 and depend largely on the body area being treated.

    • Electrolysis ? is another relatively painless process which can result in minor side effects that may include infection and scaring. This method will treat every hair follicle on an individual basis. During this procedure a needle is injected directly into the hair follicle and then it is exposed to an electric charge. This process can take months and is largely dependent upon the size of the area that is undergoing the treatment. If you are considering this type of treatment then costs may run you as high as $1,000 - $3,000, for pubic or leg areas.
    Temporary Hair Removal

Temporary hair removal techniques are more inclined to work for short periods of time and are subject to the body?s normal hair growth cycle. There are a number of home treatment methods available on the market and some of these techniques can also be performed by a certified Esthetician as well.

The temporary hair removal methods include a number of shaving, plucking, and waxing procedures, as well as hair removal creams and other various exotic procedures.

As you can see the options for removing unwanted body hair are large. The bottom line on choosing a method that is right for you can come down to your budget as well as lifestyle. If you are interested in removing unwanted body hair for sports-related competitions, or cosmetic reasons one should consider laser therapy if they can afford it. These methods are the best for eliminating large areas of body hair.

10 Dos Of Great Hair Care

If the amount of money consumers spend on hair care products annually is any indication, most people are concerned about the appearance of their hair and strive to attain beautiful, healthy and stylish locks. In fact, most will go to any lengths to achieve their desired look. From professional salon treatments to over-the-counter serums, hair care is a big business.

The only problem is that while many people are buying the right hair care products for their hair, they forget to follow basic hair care regimens that will guarantee the health and beauty of their tresses. Additionally, many are also causing needless damage to their hair by participating in unhealthy hair care behavior.

So, what should you do to make sure that your hair stays healthy, shiny and strong? Here are 10 essential must dos of great hair care.

    Hair care dos

1.Use the right hair care products for your specific hair type. If you're hair is damaged, dry or color treated, use hair care products formulated to repair this damage and add much-needed shine and resiliency. On the other hand, if your hair is oily, use a deep-cleansing shampoo and light conditioner to keep your hair looking its best. The right products should be at the base of your hair care routine.

2.Get a trim every 6 to 8 weeks as part of your regular hair care routine. Even if you are growing your hair longer, it is still vital to make a routine trim a major part of your hair care routine. Snipping ends before they split will keep your hair looking healthy and save you hair care headaches in the end.

3.Protect your hair with hair care products that contain sunscreen.

4.Shampoo your hair only when it is dirty. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to shampoo your hair daily. Doing so can make your hair dry and hard to work with.

5.Turn to a professional for all of your hair care needs. Yes, kitchen beauticians and friends do not cost as much as putting your hair care needs in the hands of a qualified professional, but they often result in blunders that end up costing you more money than if you went to the salon in the first place.

6.Use professional conditioning hair coloring systems. There are many hair coloring systems on the market, and the ones you choose can have a great impact on your hair care costs. Simply put: choose a system that causes minimal damage and conditions hair as it colors. This will save you money when it comes to conditioning hair care products.

7.Stick with one chemical service. In order to keep your hair as healthy as it can be, ask your hair care professional to recommend only one chemical service: color or perm. By only using the service that is perfect for your particular style and needs, you will ensure that your hair stays healthier.

8.Add Texture. By adding texture to your style, through perm or cut, you can greatly reduce the time it takes to style and perform your daily hair care routine. And you will look sensational.

9.Choose hair color that compliments your style. With all of the professional coloring techniques available, this part of your hair care regimen has never been easier. From chunky highlights to soft color, you can greatly enhance your style with the right technique.

10.Comb your hair with a wide-toothed come when it is wet to prevent breakage. The only time you should use a brush during your hair care routine is when your hair is barely damp or dry.

In the end, hair care is a very individualized and personal thing. Feel free to add your own flair and style to your hair care routine, but remember to include hair care principles that will benefit your hair and avoid those that damage it.

    What is Your Hair Type?

Everyday you see people with all color and style of hair. But did you know that you have a hair type? Yes! Not all hair has been created the same.

Lets start with the basic structure of hair:

1)Hair grows from the follicle, which is long and bulbous. If you were to pull out a strand of hair you would see the bulge at the tip of the hair. The cells at the base of the follicle divide rapidly and is where you get your hair growth.

2)Each strand of hair consists of three layers, the first being the innermost layer called the medulla. This is only present though in thick hair though.

3)The middle layer is known as the cortex. This layer provides the strength, color and texture of your hair.

4)The outer most layer is called the cuticle and this is what protects the cortex. It is completely colorless.

5)The entire strand of hair is made up of a protein called keratin. And that is hair!

There are 2 basic kinds of hair:

1)Terminal hair is the hair that grows thick and long and is found on the head, armpits, pubic hair face and chest. (Face and chest on men)

2)Vellus hair is soft short hair that you will find over the rest of your body.

The type of hair you have seems to have to do with geography.

1)If you are of Asian descent, then the hair strands are round and thicker than all other types of hair. With the exception of the red head who has the thickest hair of all.

2)If you are of European descent with blonde or dark hair, then your hair strands are thinner. The strands are round to oval shaped.

3)If you are of African descent, then the hair strands are flat and that is the reason for the frizziness and curl.

It?s interesting to see when you get a mix of Asian genes with African genes or Caucasian with African. I am a white girl with blonde, curly frizzy hair. My parents came from Holland where there is a high concentration of people with African descent. So it?s not hard to see where I got my hair type, which I personally love.

So you can now figure out why your hair is the way it is. You just need to do a bit of research into your family tree and there you?ll have it.

    Enjoy!

What Is Involved When Removing Hair By Waxing

The dictionary defines waxing as: 'a temporary method of hair removal which removes the hair at the root. New hairs do not grow back in the waxed area for three to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet'. But don't be fooled into thinking that waxing is for women only. Today's fashion trends have men waxing their bodies for cosmetic reasons, and many athletes such as bodybuilders and swimmers have been waxing for years.

Most waxes are comprised of some proportional mixture of paraffin or beeswax, natural oils or fats, and a specially designed resin to help the wax adhere to the skin. Some brands of wax add Vitamin E or other supplements. If you think that you might want to try waxing, the first step, whether you are a male or female, is to decide if you want to use the 'hot' or 'cold' wax technique.

The hot wax method involves heating the wax to a comfortable temperature. A thin layer of wax is spread onto the area to be treated in the direction of the hair growth. Once the wax is cooled it is quickly torn off, in the opposite direction of the hair growth, and the hair is removed with it. With the cold wax process, strips of cloth are pre-coated with wax. You apply the strips to the area to be treated, rub the strips in the direction of hair growth, and then pull the strips off quickly in the opposite direction. Although hot waxing techniques are a bit more messy than cold wax ones, many people find that the hot wax gives better results.

You can apply a non-perfumed moisturizer to the treated area if you want to. Moisturizers that are fortified with Vitamin B and/or Aloe Vera are also good.

Always check to make sure that the hot wax is below scalding or burning temperature before applying.

Waxing is a great solution for the temporary removal of unwanted hair if you're tough enough to stand a little pain.

She's Come Undone Hair and Makeup Trends Straight From the Spring Runways!

Early-morning workouts notwithstanding, faded makeup and unkempt hair are usually more closely associated with sluggishness than sex appeal. But at the spring 2006 shows in New York, Milan, and Paris, underdone beauty made a memorable appearance on virtually every runway. The effect: a confident, self-assured woman whose seeming spontaneity only adds to her allure. Fortunately, this season?s take on au natural isn?t for flawlessly skinned supermodels only; the following ten trends are sprinkled with enough flattering twists that any woman can pull them off with aplomb.

    In the Nude

Underscoring fashion?s return to minimalism, spring makeup was decidedly more discreet than any we?d seen for seasons. ?The goal is to create an ?is she or isn?t she?? look,? says makeup artist Viviane Hidalgo of Miami?s Primal Studio. ?For most women, that means using a concealer, a primer, and a moisturizer mixed with foundation to achieve good coverage.? In real life, a look completely devoid of color can run the risk of looking deadly, so Hidalgo urges women to use a subtle shade to emphasize their best feature. ?If you?ve got great eyes, for example, add a little definition in the corner,? she suggests.

On the Runway: At Chlo?, models wore only a smidge of liner along the top lash line; at Balenciaga, freshly scrubbed faces were enhanced with hints of carefully chosen color; and at BCBG Max Azria and Christian Dior, makeup was barely there at all.

Best Bets: Maybelline New York Revitalizing Concealer, Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation, Olay Complete Moisturizer, M.A.C. Prep + Prime Skin

    Rope Trick

Each season seems to spawn a signature hairstyle, and for spring, braids were the models? crowning glory. If you haven?t worn them since the sixth grade, however, you may want to look before you leap. ?It?s a very young look,? says Kim L?pine of the L?pine New York salon. ?If you?re young and funky, you should do them everywhere, allover,? she recommends. For older or more sophisticated ladies, L?pine suggests ?a single braid toward the back of the head as an elegant detail for a bun or an updo.?

On the Runway: Funky cornrows ruled the L.A.M.B. runways; at Rochas, hair was plaited into skinny, princess-worthy halos; Viktor & Rolf?s stylists opted for ropey, oversize versions; and at Calvin Klein, strands were swept into a single loose, low-maintenance braid.

Best Bets: Goody Exquisite Rat Tail Comb, Mason-Pearson Brush, Biosilk Silk Therapy, Sebastian Shaper Hairspray

    Hot Lips

In a season of understatement, some makeup artists relied on ruby lips to add a dose of drama?a classic, glamorous look that makeup artist Troy Surratt loves. ?A bold, sexy red lip is especially perfect for winter,? he maintains. What?s more, ?you don?t need to be scared of it. If you?re using a red lip, just remember to play down the rest of your face.?

On the Runway: Lips were a matte cherry at Alessandro Dell?Acqua, a glossy rich scarlet at Costume National, and a warmer tomato shade at Emanuel Ungaro.

Best Bets: Maybelline New York Moisture Extreme in Royal Red, Chanel Le Crayon Gloss in Grenadine, Urban Decay Pleather Pencil in Kink, Nars Lipstick in Heat Wave

    Heavy Metal

Sparkly shadows in shades of gold, silver, and bronze made a strong showing on virtually every runway. According to Surratt, ?shimmer can play up anyone?s eyes, and golden shades tend to be the most flattering.? The key, he emphasizes, is dolling out the dazzle in small doses: ?Be sure to keep the shadow on the lid, and use only a tiny bit to highlight your brow bone.?

On the Runway: At Alberta Ferretti, golden shadows highlighted the eyes? inner corners, darkening to bronze at the browbone; Anna Sui used just a hint of sheen on the lids and lower lash lines; Chanel opted for a futuristic silvery shade; and John Galliano?s metallics (in keeping with the couture) took a Felliniesque turn.

Best Bets: Maybelline New York Roller Color in In-Line Ice, Bare Escentuals Foiling Glimmers, Girlactik Beauty Sparkle Eye Liner Set, Benefit Show Offs

    Brown-Eyed Girl

Spring?s mink, sienna, and sable eye shadows proved that browns are anything but boring. ?It?s a nice balance between nude and made-up, and there are a bazillion browns to choose from,? says Bobbe Joy of the Bobbe Joy Makeup Studio in Beverly Hills. ?To amp up a neutral shadow, add a line of gold or iridescent shadow from the lashes to the crease, right down the center of the lid,? she says. ?It?s still a natural look, but it really opens up the eye.?

On the Runway: At Andrew Gn, eyes were enhanced with a warm walnut; at Celine, makeup artists opted for an offbeat ochre shade; Moschino?s chocolate shadows were coated with glitter across the crease; and at Vera Wang, eyes were swept with a more unassuming ecru.

Best Bets: Cargo Eye Shadow in Cocoa Beach; Cover Girl Eye Enhancers in Mink; Too Faced Eyeshadow Duo in Full Frontal; and Afterglow Multitasking Eye Shadows in Champagne Shimmer, Dune, and Coco

    Pretty Slick

Despite its gangster associations, slicked-back strands looked surprisingly fresh and pretty on the runways. In real life?without a team of stylists at your disposal??the look is best suited to those with thin, fine, or straight hair,? says hairstylist Lindsay Rider of the Bang Salon in Washington, D.C. Assuming you have the appropriate hair type, start by coating freshly washed strands with a smoothing cream, then blow-dry and finish with a shine spray. To ensure an end result that?s sleek, not slimy, ?use less product in the beginning,? Rider suggests; ?you can always add more later on if you need to.?

On the Runway: Hair was swept into shiny ponys at Chloe and Prada; Narciso Rodriguez used glossy strands to create an ultramodern French twist; and Alexander McQueen split the difference, slicking back strands in front and leaving them loose in the back.

Best Bets: Tigi Bedhead After-Party Smoothing Cream, Fr?d?ric Fekkai Glossing Cream, Redken Vinyl Glam 02 Mega Shine Spray, Citre Shine Mist Anti-Frizz Spray Laminator

    Doll Face

Continuing a trend that began last fall, makeup artists relied on rosy blushes to give the models a fresh, pretty glow. For a convincing flush, rather than?80s-style racing streaks, selecting the right product is key. ?You want to avoid pigments that are too heavy for your skin tone,? Hildago explains. ?Creams and stains tend to work better on skin without enlarged pores, while powders tend to complement less-perfect complexions.? In either case, ?you should use a round motion to get good blending, and remove any excess with a tissue,? she adds.

On the Runway: Carolina Herrera?s models got a healthy pale-pink flush, while Zac Posen?s and Anna Molinari?s were treated to a more intense rosy shade.

Best Bets: Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in Rose Bronze, Nars Orgasm Blush, Fresh Blush Powder in Charm School, Cargo Blush in Topeka

    Smudge Report

Thin is eternally in on the catwalk, but at the spring shows, makeup artists eschewed skinny sweeps of liner in favor of thick, more imprecise spoltches. According to Hildago, blurring the lines beautifully is largely a matter of choosing the right the product. ?To achieve a diffused look, use a soft kohl pencil to rim the eye,? she says. ?Black can be very intense, so depending on your coloring, you may want to try a neutral brown or taupe instead.?

On the Runway: At Donna Karen, eyes were enhanced with a smudge of black liner on the inner corners and an abridged cat?s-eye on top; at Givenchy, the lines were thicker and more intense, continuing around the entire eye; and at Louis Vuitton, dark lines were seamlessly blended with progressively lighter shadows on the lids and brow bones.

Best Bets: Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Black, M.A.C. Eye Kohl Liner in Smolder, Benefit Bad Gal Liner, Estee Lauder Artist?s Eye Pencil in Softsmudge Black

    Wet 'n' Mild

On many runways, makeup artists used lip glosses to give neutral palettes a dewy sheen. To give your gloss more staying power, ?first prep your lips with a bit of foundation,? Surratt says. ?Then line them with a shade very close to your natural lip color, and fill in with a light gloss.? The liner, Surratt explains, will ?prevent the gloss from bleeding on to the rest of your face.? And if you opt for a nude, lustrous lip, ?play up your eyes, and add a little highlighter to your cheeks,? he suggests.

On the Runway: Pouts got a pale-pink polish at Behnaz Sarafpour, a rosy sheen at J. Mendel, and a coral-colored glaze at MaxMara.

Best Bets: Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer Foundation, Clinique Sheer Shaper for Lips in Blushy, Stila Lip Polish in Glisten, Smashbox Lip Gloss in Shoot

    Bronze Age

For years now, makeup artists have used self-tanners and bronzers to give porcelain-skinned models a faux glow. But for the past few seasons, we?ve seen the fad evolve into a subtler, more believable bake?a trend that continued on the spring runways. ?Self-tanners and bronzers can give nice color,? Joy says, ?but they tend to have a lot of orangey tones, so you need to choose the right one. One size definitely does not fit all, especially if you?re pale.? For a more realistic glow, ?use a blush on the apples of the cheeks, too,? she suggests. And remember, ?your head is sitting on your neck, so don?t forget to apply these products to your neck, shoulders, and d?colletage.?

On the Runway: Skin was tawny Michael Kors, a rosier glow at Oscar de la Renta, and glowing bronze at Versace.

Best Bets: Jergens Natural Glow, Clarins Liquid Bronze, Bobbi Brown Bronzer and Blush Duo, Stephane Marais Bronzing Powder

    A Fine Mess

Deliberately disheveled manes provided a chic contrast to slick strands and cascading curls at the spring shows. According to L?pine, getting a sexy just-rolled-out-of-bed look requires a careful balance between chaos and control. ?Use soft-hold products, like light gels, waxes, and pomades, to give the mess some order,? she says. ?At that point, you can leave it loose or secure the hair discreetly with pins for a casual updo.?

On the Runway: Strands were messy and sexed-up at Libertine; pulled into haphazard updo?s at Luca Luca; and left loose and wavy at Roberto Cavalli and Missoni.

Best Bets: Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Sea Waves, Aveda Purefume Brillant Humectant Pomade, Matrix Biolage Shaping Cr?me Wax

    The Secret to Shiny Hair

I'm sure you?ve seen on TV the Pantene commercial where the hair shines like a mirror. I don't know why other hair commercials don't do the same thing with all that shine.

I do like the Pantene shampoo because there is silk in it.

For one thing, what I learned going to cosmetology school is that you need to shampoo your hair 2 times to get the crap out of your hair. The first time you shampoo your hair, you bring the dirt up to the surface, and the 2nd time you shampoo, you get all the residual dirt out of your hair. The second time you shampoo your hair, just use a dime size amount.

Now that you shampooed your hair, you can use a conditioner, especially if it has silk in it.

The biggest secret to shiny hair is to use either lemon juice or apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle to get your hair back to its natural ph and closes the cuticle. When the cuticle is closed that?s when you hair is shiny.

Make sure you use a natural bristle brush or comb and always comb in the direction the hair falls, which is down.

If you want to use a light mousse, that's fine but after you comb it, just leave it alone and let it dry naturally.

Now if you blow dry your hair, again, blow dry it in a downward motion. This allows the cuticle to stick together naturally. Then your hair will reflect light. If you blow your hair against the natural direction, your hair will not be shiny. You can also use Infusium Leave In Conditioner to protect your hair. Infusium will untangle any knots.

If you use a curling iron, use one of those ceramic curling irons--the professional ones. It can make your hair extremely shiny because again you are using the iron in a downward direction. It is good if you can use Infusium Leave-in spray conditioner to protect the hair.

These are simple techniques to get the most shine out of your hair.

Hang Up Your Hair for Static Control

Did you know that there are differences in the way you care for your hair depending upon the season we are in? Have you ever noticed that your hair starts to behave differently when the cold weather hits? Hair tends to dry out and is hard to manage especially during the winter months, but there are a few things you can do to protect it. Try to not wash your hair too often during the winter months, and using a dry-hair shampoo will be good for it. Static electricity is also a problem during the winter, so run a metal hanger over to stop it in its tracks. If you are dealing with thinning hair or applying some other type of hair loss remedy, it may be difficult to not shampoo too often.

Here is a recipe for a good conditioner that you can use in the winter to replace store-bought conditioners. Take one-half cup of pure maple syrup, a hotel shower cap and a towel wrap for 30 minutes. If you have to buy a conditioner, trying purchasing your shampoos and conditioners from a salon as they carry a much better quality product. Sometimes, preventing hair loss in the winter is more difficult as it seems to occur more during the winter months.

When your hair gets very dry, you can use a hair treatment or a hair reconstructor to add volume to your hair. It is a good idea to use conditioning heat-activated hair spray and to leave conditioners on as long as possible. A deep-moisturizing conditioner should be used weekly, and remember to not go outside with wet hair as this may freeze your hair and cause breaking. Remember to always wear a hat, and especially in wintertime. Hair regrowth is sometimes difficult in the winter months, but is easier in the warmer summer months.
